BIG Gold! First High School RIng Of 2006...

Hit the lane from midnight to 4 AM for the 1:30 low tide. Got a dozen quarters, several dimes, a few nickels, and a bunch of pennies. And a big fattie 10K chunk of a ring, deep in the wet sand.

Saw David from Suffolk out there. Darren too. And some guy digging DEEP holes and not making any attempt to fill them at all. A girl stepped in one and she and her boyfriend gave me a go-to-hell look. Not cool...could get us all shut down. We really need to fill holes, at least half-ass. Not in the water, of course, but these were up high in the wet sand...no chance of getting filled in by waves anytime soon. Looked like the surface of the moon out there, and still lots of folks on the beach. City council gets a wild hair and all of a sudden no metal detecting allowed.

Hi Mike,
That's fantastic i think you better not look what i found today yours puts me to shame.

Regards and happy :detecting: Maureen from Ozz.

Nice ring, I hope you are able to return it to the owner. Don't think your are the only one with problems with idiots digging holes and not filling them. Here in Idaho we have the same problem. Just the other day the park super contacted me and told me that he had his employees check the area I was hunting after I left to see what kind of damage to the park lawn I had done. He told me that the employees were unable to find where I had been. That made me feel real good. He told me that he had a problem with guys digging holes and not filling them. He also said guys were digging plugs and killing the lawn. He told me to pass the word to the others that if it continues the park will be closed to all. There is always some that will ruin it for all. All we can do is try to educate these guys and hope they get the message. HH Dennis in Idaho

I don't want to come over there and see the signs up, NO METAL DETECTORS.:yikes:
It can and will happen if you guys don't get those others straightened out. see ya soon.

there is one pissed off giant out there. 10 K band weighs about 8 grams and is loose on my thumb:yikes: all of the other rings I have found fit through it and a quarter fits inside the rim and almost through it ?????? did the moon walk last night also !!! I saw who didn't fill their holes if I see him again I will say something. I would post a picture but that would only strain your eyes:nerd:

Someone is digging monster holes in the swimming areas here, out deep, and not filling them. I don't know how many I've stepped into. I have to start swimming to get out of them. What gets me, is obviously this person doesn't know squat about pinpointing a target, as some of these holes are 3 FEET in diameter!

Actually, I've posted that link here many times myself. I first listed a found ring there 3 years ago. Here it is:

http://classringfinder.com/RingDetail.asp?RingID=1216

Nobody ever claimed it. I'm sure many have found their way back through that site though. This ring is a 2006 class ring and although there are a good number on 2006 rings listed there, this one isn't one of them. Further, there are no intitials and no high school name on it...just an "H". Although there is a name on it. Hopefully something will turn up.

In this case the more effective way to deal with it is by doing what I have done here. Bring it out for all to see but avoid confrontation and finger pointing. The digger is reading this and hopefully will do the right thing. Dealing with it last night would not have been well received and would have started trouble. I was there to hunt, not fight. The bottom line is that if he continues to do it then he'll screw it up for everybody and there's nothing that can be done about it anyway. I'm hoping that he'll see the error in his ways and do the right thing.

The story of the girl falling in the hole last night and almost getting injured and them being upset is real. I was embarrassed for all of us when I saw the look on their faces...they looked at me like "What gives you the right to dig all these holes with no regard for anybody and just leave them there???"

I got a 14K white gold band & a nice 925 toe ring ( 2 wanna bes also). I will post(w/pics) later going to get a nap before night shift begins in the lane.

Cool...glad to hear you snagged a couple of keepers. See you out there.

Just got up from a nap myself. I think I may catch a few more Z's too...the night shift is tough work.

I don't have great expectations for tonight, being it wasn't much of a beach day. But it also only takes that ONE FIND to make a night! :yikes:

I suppose maybe they would. Excuse me for not being quite as astute as you, but do you know who HJ is? Should that be obvious? Jeweler's mark, sure...but WHO'S?

Nevermind...Herff Jones...Google is my friend! And so are YOU...you're so smart!

I'll check it out...

I am trying to read between the lines here....
"And some guy digging DEEP holes and not making any attempt to fill them at all."
You know this guy and want to avoid a confrontation.....sounds like a good way to handle it....hope it works.

Nail > Head > BAM!

No need to make it more than it needs to be. Plus, I'm sure we've all been guilty of not filling in a hole from time to time, particularly on the beach where mother nature will take care of it from tide to tide.

But when we're night hunting and leaving the wet sand looking like the golf course on Caddyshack after Bill Murray got done trying (unsuccessfully) to get that gopher, we have to remember that there are still lots of people walking down that lane too, even late at night. And most of them have been drinking too, so they're having a tough enough time as it is.

I don't fill when I'm in the water, but wet sand up get filled. It is amazing to me how little manners many detectorist's have in this requard.
