Big foot coil for the MXT

rickh

New member
HI just a quick question
Has anyone used the big foot coil for the MXT and if so was it any good, is it better than the 12 inch excellerator for the beach and large areas of the country side

Thanks in advance

RickH

I have had no experience with the 12 inch excellerator coil, but I have with the Bigfoot coil. If you want to cover lots of ground like sports fields and beaches it works great. I have found lots of gold and silver goodies with it. Mike

Hi

Thanks to everyone that responded to my question on the Big Foot and the MXT
Does anyone have a suggestion which retailer would be the best ( most reliable) to purchase this coil from
I am in Australia so they would need to be able to ship internationally

Thanks in advance

Rickh

I use a Bigfoot on my MXT. It works very well to quickly cover large open areas. Since it is only 4 inches wide, it even does a reasonably good separation job in areas with up to moderately dense trash. There is a difference in signal sound when a target is under the front or back half of the coil but only takes a short while to become accustomed to. I have never used a 12 inch excellerator coil so I can

Used the Bigfoot for a while on my MXT. Can't tell you if it's better than a DD. However, I can tell you that it's a pain to use. Because of the angle to detect properly, you have to rest the detector on it's side when you want to dig.

Hi xwyokid,

I have seen Bigfoot coils having two mounting holes, one of them slotted, and requiring a special two bolt lower rod. The second bolt is an adjuster to set a fixed coil angle. I can see that it would be very difficult to use a Bigfoot coil that would not pivot. Is that the design of the Bigfoot coin you posted about?

I thought the two bolt design Bigfoot was only used for the 6.59khz models. I didn't realize any of the Bigfoot coils designed for the DFX/MXT/M6 were built using the two mounting bolt design. My Bigfoot and those currently for sale for the MXT have a one bolt mount design. This allows the the coil to pivot on the rod freely with only slight resistance. And, it allows the detector to be set down in the normal upright position. In fact, I often purposely pivot the coil to be parallel to the lower shaft using the toe of my shoe and pinpoint targets using only the tip of the coil. That pinpoint method is fast and very accurate on shallow targets.

You should see if you can borrow a one bolt Bigfoot or get a demo at a dealer. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Good luck and have fun, Bob
