Big fake coin or maybe something else...

REVIER

I have found my share of fake coins, that coin Kellyco sends you when you buy a detector, a Two-Face double headed novelty Peace dollar from that Batman movie and maybe one or two others, but every one of them has the word copy stamped on them somewhere which is by law.
This one does not have that.
Pretty large, the size of a half and here is a pic next to a quarter to show you.

It seems to be a sandwich of a copper side and I believe a nickel side with what appears to be zinc in the middle.
Pretty thick on the end plates, the whole thing weighs 20.3 grams.
One of the ends is slightly broken off and you can see the inside and how it's made.

It came in as a high tone exactly like a quarter and that is what I thought I was digging bt I was sure surprised when this thing popped up instead.
I know it is not real, but I sure would like to know what it represents.
Maybe it is not supposed to be a coin but something else.

Any help would be appreciated.

Found it.
Supposed to be a Spanish 8 Reale cob.

Arrgg........... pirate treasure matey. Looks like an older novelty item.

Eric Cartman got fooled by a whole pile of fake treasure he found in a cave...he swallowed it all to sneak it out...things did not go well for him!:lmfao:

Yup...copy coin made of cheap white pot metal...

Why does it have that copper tone to it? If Zincolns are any indication "pot metal" (zinc) would exhibit a good deal more corrosion.

I'd find it hard to believe a company would go through all the expense/trouble to make a promotional fake coin with a sandwiched copper arrangement.
How thick is the copper? Does it appear to be a thin layer of plating or a thicker pounded layer? Are you sure the nickel side isn't silver?
Would of been great if you posted a pic of the edge showing the layering.
How deep was it? If on or near the surface, then likely fake. Or was it a beach find?

It doesn't take long for a zincoln to turn crusty even with its copper plating. That coin shows no serious corrosion.
I suppose anything is possible though.

I haven't checked but I suspect that said law applies to specifically U.S. coinage. The U.S. government has no vested interest in protecting the currency of other countries, especially when said currency is 300 or more years old. Anybody in the U.S. attempting to pass off a replica coin (of any nation) as genuine can be prosecuted under a general fraud statute so a special law would be redundant.
