Big Barber!, Silver Dimes & Other Oldies

Well-known member
Finds are from old city parks and schools from the last 2 weekends.
I have been wanting a barber half dollar for a couple years now and it came in the form of a 1897 Half dollar.
Including the silver war nickel yesterday was a 10 silver day.
It was a partial day hunt until 2pm. I hunted with "Silver King" (James) who also got a pile of silver dimes and a 1941 Walker and 1908 Canadian quarter. Great job James! Was a fun hunt.
It was very hot and humid but the old coins made it a very fun day for us.
The 2 older merchant tokens came from a town with less than 200 people. This is also my first semi intact harmonica. Both of old buttons were deep low tones and have
very interesting designs.

Coin Finds

1897 Barber Half dollar
1895 O Barber Quarter, 1940, 1953 silver quarters
Dimes are back to 1918 (Canadian)
Nickels are 1905,1918,1928,1935,1940,1942 (war nickel), 1945 (war nickel)
Indian pennies are 1889,1889,1903,1904
Close to 2 dozen wheat pennies back to 1909.

Non Coin Finds

Large Good for 50 cents Merchant token
Good for 10 cents Merchant token
Partial Harmonica
Old Key
Old Pin
Miniature copper cowboy hat
2 Play coins
Old Train Button (one listing from research says this could be 1800s train engine RR uniform button)
Old John Deere Overalls Button
Lee Overalls Button
1985 Transformers pin
Old Watch bracelet

Boy, am I envious! That Barber half has been my white whale. I have never found one but am very happy you were able to find one. That is a beauty, Dave! Really like the two buttons and that sharp IHP as well. That is quite the haul of silver between the two of you. Congrats and HH.
Greg

FPD//Dave.....good greif!
i am entirely blown away....AGAIN!
you continue to mine silver from sites that have been hammered.
i try to replicate 1/10th of your success but pretty much fail miserably
you clearly have a very deft ear and the patience of a saint
and we are all green with envy but happy for your success as well!!
well done

Thanks Greg!
Yes, those barber halves don't come up often at all. I believe I got my last one about 4 years ago when I got 2 in the same weekend.
Those buttons were deep low tones I chased that jumped in and out of nickel range. The Old train button was about 9 inches deep.
You will get your barber half when you least expect it..

SS,
yes, I am very patient and stubborn :) ETrac is a great machine also.
You pulled a lot of oldies last year including US large cents which I never have.
I have been lucky this year on the big silver so far.
Thanks for the comments.

Thanks Dave I’m in ct been doing well on silver this year this was a total surprise this schooll is newer
But the field on the side is bordered by a old house which the field behind it used to carry into this field I was hunting
Split now by a newer parking lot.
I went very slow and started hitting cut nails I knew something should follow but not this coin actually thought it was
A trime something a little newer when it came out of the hole I’ll be going back it has very little modern trash which is great!
It’s now my oldest American silver find...
Mark

Mark,
Wow. Sounds fun! If you need help, my wife and I have a vacation coming the first week in august. :)
