Big Barber Quarter and V nickel pocket spill

Well the fields that I hoped had been cut hadn't been, so I had to go to another field that has not produced before.

I wandered the field back and forth and back and forth till I was almost at the other end of it, when the detector screamed out with a couple high pitch tones across one sweep...

Interesting I say to myself.

The first target I dug up was a buckle.

And then a V nickel, and then a barber quarter and another barber quarter and another barber quarter, well you get the idea

In the end , my hand held four barber quarters and two V nickels.

All the coins were concentrated in an area of about 30 or 40 square feet at the very most out in the middle of this 15 or so acre field.

After scouring that section of the field I started heading back to my truck.

Quite a ways away from the pockets spill I found another barber quarter and a modern dime.

I suppose persistence paid off in this case, by giving this field one more chance. Needless to say I'll be heading back

Dang man! Thats a great looking pile of coins there!

Nice going GK! That gives us all hope.

If you get time could you tell us a little history about that field. I'm just wondering how deep they were, and if a farm field ,did a plow spread that spill around a bit and keep them shallow.

We have some newer parks around here with big fields that they mow. Old farm fields for sure. And I'm sure they have never seen a detector. You guys think I might find something there ? Just a matter of time before I get to working on them.

Thanks Guys

Coon, this field is on the outskirts of two 1700's farms that I have permission to detect. Both farms are currently around a 100 acres of land. This one field is about 15 acres of small rolling hills. All research I have completed doesn't show this field ever being anything more than woods or fields. I have a feeling this was simply a drop by a farmer, or farmhand while working the land. All the coins where less than six inches, the buckle I found intermingled with the coins was about six inches. I believe at least one of the coins I was able to pinpoint before taking the first shovel of dirt. I would guess that the spreading out of the coins from their original ground zero may be simply due to tilling the land for the past 100 plus year...

Now nearby I found a shotgun shell with a yellow plastic shell casing at closer to eight inches, so, I think I was just lucky that these coins were left closer to the surface.

As far as fields by you, well I suppose it depends on how long they have seen human activity. Around us here in the Hudson Valley fields have been in continues use for two hundred plus years...I didn't really start off wanting to go to this field but had to because the others are not harvested yet. I have scoured those fields closer to the farm houses and done very well..

In the quest for treasure I also dug up all of this, this morning.

Wow, very nice, and all of them looking pretty new except one. Gotta be way more good targets at that site.

Guy lost his pants and all his money

Todd,
Last time that happened to me was, uh... nevermind...

Dig colonial or go home ,yea I would love to dig that spill that's a awesome spill . All no mint marks shocks  sube

Man that is almost criminal! That is what makes fields so much fun....you hunt a place and you get nada and then you go back and Shazamm! Lightning strikes! Congrats we'll earned.

Thanks GK.

That gives me some hope to find at least a few items in these big areas. I personaly don't need allot of targets to keep me interested. I just like to get out there sometimes and enjoy the nice days. I do at least need to know there is a chance to find some goodies though, otherwise I might as well just walk the neighbors dog.

GK, that pile of crap looks just like the piles I usually bring home. Im glad someone else is scoring on it too... Should keep on the down low though . Wouldn't want everyone getting in on our luck. :)

Ha, true!
