Bible Poem Riddle

Hey Folks,

My pastor's wife handed this out to us at Bible Study the other night. You may have seen it before, but many may not have. It was written by a lady from California in 1880 in response to a gentleman in Philadelphia who said that he would pay $1000 to anyone who could write a puzzle that he couldn't solve. He failed to solve it, and paid the woman the $1000. The answer is one word, with five letters, and it only appears four times in the Scriptures (some translations).

God made Adam out of dust,
But thought it best to make me first:
So I was made before the man,
According to God's holy plan.

My whole body God made complete,
Without arms or hands or feet.
My ways and acts did God control,
But in my body He placed no soul.

A living being I became
And Adam gave to me a name.
Then from his presence I withdrew
For this man Adam I never knew.

All my Maker's laws I do obey
And from these laws I never stray.
Thousands of me go in fear
But seldom on the earth appear.

Later, for a purpose God did see,
He placed a living soul in me;
But that soul of mine God had to claim
And from me took it back again.

And when this soul from me had fled
I was the same as when first made --
Without arms, legs, feet, or soul,
I travel on from pole to pole.

My labors are from day to night
And to men once I furnished light.
Thousands of people both young and old
Did by my death bright light behold.

No right or wrong can I conceive:
The Bible and its teachings I can't believe.
The fear of death doesn't trouble me;
Pure happiness I will never see.

And up in heaven I can never go,
Nor in the grave or hell below.
So get your Bible and read with care;
You'll find my name recorded there.

If you've seen this before, please allow others to ponder upon it for a while before giving the answer. We had fun with it the other evening!

Be a blessing to another this day!

Kim

I have never seen it before, but believe the answer is...
I won't spoil it for others!
Thanks Kim that was fun!
God bless,
MM

I have also had several that have guessed Satan, which is incorrect.... and I would never give him that much press time!

e-mail me or PM.... if you have an answer or wish to know the answer.

God Bless,

Kim

Betty,

The correct answer is #&%Gtbe%* ... Darn Keyboard!

Polling the Forum users.... should I reveal the answer to all ?

God Bless,

Kim

I really need to preview before I post... may save an edit!

Or post the answer, if you want. I think let others stew about it more.
It is a very good riddle, my wife couldn't solve it and it was driving her nuts, so I had to tell her.
Thanks again,
God bless,
MM

Good idea. I'll send Betty a PM with the answer, and allow others more time if they'd like!

Blessings!

Kim

don't seem to be succeeding too well, as the last two verses really stump me, but I'll keep trying to find the answer for a while yet, before opening your Message with the answer!

God Bless!
