BHID 300/tiger shark/other?

Up here in the UP of Michigan (lake superior) and there is loads of old iron boat scraps from ship wrecks and old nails from wooden boats capsized. I am looking for a easy to use freshwater unit with good depth and I need disc no 2 ways about it. I plan on buying tomorrow and have time to to play with is. Will also be using it in freshwater back at home. I have excluded minelabs as the service and reliability of the machines are not that great. No sense in having one if its always out of service.

So its freshwater, Disc, Easy to use, good depth and reliability.

From what I have read PI would be out and I seem to be leaning the BHID 300 way.

I use the DD Pro Wader in the freshwater lakes that we have up here in the north country and do well with them.
Check the Detector Pro Forum and see some of the comments on these !

I have an Excalibur 1000 that I've owned for 3 years now. I never had any problem with it and have found a ton of good stuff in both fresh and salt water.

Hmm I like the minelab the problem is if something did happen to it. I was looking at the wader but was warned against them from many people I will look deeper on them now.

I guess if anything happened to mine I'd just buy a new one instead of worrying about getting it fixed. I've recovered more value than I paid for the thing.

If I had the money to buy 2 of the bat I would. You all know how it is buying a new detector. I just want a good reliable detector.

I use a Fisher CZ20 now, but I did have a Tiger Shark that has a life time warranty. I did send it in once and their service was great (of course that was a while ago). Very sensitive on small gold. The only thing I did not like was, to adjust the sens. you had to open up the box (control was in inside).JMO
I love my CZ20 goes deep.

I just started looking at the CZ 20. I had the same problem with the stingray as you with the tiger :(

I had two TS and they are great. Sold one and got a CZ21. That's a good detector. I have never found any reason to want to change the sensitivity with the TS. It's set and I just hunt with it. The 3 tones on the CZ are nice but the lifetime warranty, not even for the original owner, is hard to beat. And...they do get the units turned around fast. However, don't really remember hearing about many folks returning them for service. The TS also will allow a change of coils which others don't. jim

Thanks for the info. Bought the BHID 300 for a steal and will be receiving it tomorrow. Be on Superior tomorrow to test it and getr used to it :)

Sounds like you need to get rid of the iron problem and get good depth. You have to go with the Excal because it nulls out iron and gets the depth. The C-Z-20 loves iron so I hear, and you'll have a hard time trying to disc out iron with any other detector plus you'll lose the depth trying. IMO

Received it and only got a few hours testing and using it. The detector is so easy to set up and use. I was digging no iron or nails but was digging alot of bottle caps and pulltabs ringing in jewelry range. This filtered out all the iron!! I was digging pull tabs at about 8-9 " and bottle caps 10" . Hit a few pop cans at 18" and a tuna can at 14". Nothing in the water today as today was freezing. Will be hitting the water tomorrow and will report back. Did not super tune it yet this was just quick GB and test.

Well this detector is been a pleasure to use. I finally at the end of the day super tuned it and went out and wow does it go alot deeper. I pulled so much out of the water from bullets to shells down 12+ inched to a 1906 indian head at 11" :) It rang between coin and jewelry on the lights and really banged thru the headphones!!

Pics later but I am really liking this machine!!

Ground balance it like you normally would then..

Crank sensitivity to high it will be a high squeal almost inaudible on mine with headphones off.
Reset the switch and put back in all metal mode.
GB again and leave in all metal. It goes really deep this way and lights still work.
Only works in all metal this way.
