BHID 300 loud headphone audio question

I just received a BHID 300 yesterday, the first water detector I have ever owned. This Monday I negotiated with my wife :) and am calling it my "ring challenge" day of hunting. I am going to head to the beach Sun night, hunt all day off and on, hit the low tides and see if I can come up with a ring or two. This would really impress my wife and help pay down the $915 I paid for it. Anyway, my question deals with the noise level. I tried putting several different things in the headphones to cut out on the volume level, but none seemed to muffle it down to a comfortable level. I have finally decided that earplugs are the best solution. I was just wondering if anyone else has a method that has helped them. Not sure why there is not a volume control on this detector. Thanks, Bryan

I have used closed cell foam pads in each speaker enclosure. I use closed cell (you can not blow through it) because it does not absorb water and I use the headphones in the shallow water hunts. If you do not get the headphones wet, open cell foam will also work. Ear plugs are also a great way to reduce the sound as you have discovered. However, you need to insert and remove every hunt.

If it's like the...... DF their is a volume control screw inside the housing with the batteries.

I will have to check about that control screw in the housing...that sure would help. Thanks for the info guys...I put some foam in there that helps a tad...otherwise, I guess I will sick with the ear plugs
