BH Tracker IV Disc, all metal, Tone??????

Hello,
I just got my first detector, a BH Tracker IV. I hunted my yard Saturday for 6 hours with good success. I tried using the all metal settings and I found that my yard is completely FULL of nails and junk. I switched over to Disc mode and set my sensitivity all the way up and the Disc knob at 12 o'clock. I got the nails to barely sqweek a tone but I still dug a TON of roofing nails as well as a LOT of other stuff. I was wondering if you BH guys/girls use the tone mode more than the Disc mode? I also wanted to know if any of you BH users have been picking up very deep targets? I found 5 tin pie plates in my back yard, 3 of them were over 20 inches deep. I did have some rain the night before, but 20+ inches is much deeper than I ever expected. I live in Tennessee so the soil is not sand or anything, if that helps. If you have any advice that you want to share, I would appreciate it!

DigDug1, I tend to preset my unit with known coins or whatever I'm after. Then I search in all metal mode. When I find something I switch to Tone to see if it's what I'm looking for. You could search in Tone but I like to hear the signal of any find!! I rarely use the Discrimination setting of my switch.

I tend to consider where I am searching to help determin if I will dig something up. If I am in an area where more beer is consumed than rings are lost, I tend to skip the lower aluminum / nickels / gold ring tones. If I'm at the beach, there is NO WAY I'm skipping these tones......aluminum pull tabs or not!! So take into consideration where you are searching, and what you are searching for. Preset your machine accordingly.

At least that's the way I use my BHT4.

HH!!
