well heres another newb i bought a tracker 5 or is it a 4? cant remember, lol for my 12 yo son this xmas. i thought it would be a great way for us to spend some time together, you know (quality time!) and boy did i hit the nail on the head !!!!! he loves it weve already recovered several coins the best so far being a Mercury dime dated 1944. i have the good fortune of being a custodian at a small country school (a Farley old one ) and we have lots of ground to cover yet! and a nearby ghost town also the thing is we just have to wait for spring! we live in the middle of montana you see! but we have big plans to be out this summer instead of inside watching the boob tube! and say i had an idea for this hobby , for all of us diggers old and new! there is a product called garden claw out there and seems to me it would be ideal to dig up coins without damaging them. any how gotta go ! good luck all!

G'day Scott, welcome to the forum. The tracker IV is a great unit, I own 2 of them. Look for local swimming holes, rivers or creeks with little beaches etc, these areas will produce good keepers (jewelery, coins etc) Kids playgrounds with sand pits or chip bark are also a wonderful source of renewable goodies also. Enjoy the hobby. Live your dreams! HH regards Nugget.:detecting:

Scott another area that is often overlooked by most detectorists are gravel parking lots. Loads of clad and rings as people put their hands in their pockets to get their keys and lose change when pulling them out. Also, ladies tend to lose their rings when their hands get cold while pulling off gloves to get their keys in cold weather. Welcome to the addiction.
