BH Pinpointer

Hi All --

I was just on the Cabela's website and they have the BH Pinpointer on sale for $29.99. Reg price is $59.99.

I went ahead and ordered one. Does anyone use on that could give me some feedback. Hopefully it is a good product

It is an OK product...I like it because it can be easily modified, and is a "No Motion" detector...I added a larger buzzer and an external LED to mine, so I can hear/feel/see it in the dark...taping up the battery cover is a must. the way it is designed was very poor, and the cover WILL fall off at some point in the field if not taped on. Otherwise, I do not go out without it...if I get a real loud signal, indicating a shallow target, most of the time I just use the pinpointer to locate the target, then pop it out with a rounded off large flt-blade screwdriver...No need to dig...on deep targets, that are not dead in the center of my hole, the pinpointer is a MUST and saves me much time in recovering targets....I will post pics of my modifications here:

Where you see the LED on the board is where you will tap in for the external LED...Just remove the one from the board, noting the polarity, and run thin braided wire to a remotely mounted LED. drill a hole just big enough to let the LED pass through the case, and pick a spot on the case that will allow the new LED to pass through without hitting other parts inside. The BUZZER can be replaced with a larger one of the same voltage rating...

I will also drag these back to the top:

Hope these help you all,

I own and use a BH pinpointer. It does the job for me. I like the tapered tip. The vibration and sound aren't real strong but it is adequate under most circumstances. If you are in a noisy area it can be difficult to hear. If you are wearing gloves it can be difficult to feel. I think Gopher has the solution to both.

My biggest complaint about mine is the battery cover tends to come off when applying pressure to it while probing around in the dirt. You have to make sure the cover is on correctly as it will fit both ways, but the clips only grab if it is positioned the right way. A little electrical tape solves that problem.

I just bought one of the $29.00 pinpointers at our local Cabelas. The tip end of one I have been using for the past year is just about worn through from using it in sandy soil, pea gravel playgrounds, and hitting rocks. I was considering "biting the bullet" and getting a Garret's pinpointer, but for $29.00 I'll keep using a BH.
