BH LandStar - Mode ???

New member
Hello all,

Noobsauce here again... Before my wife turns my new MD into shop fodder because the backyard looks the entire planet's gopher population lives here.... I just want to make sure I'm on the right track...

RTFM - Check.... four or five times...
Ground Balance - Check ALL Metal Mode | GB CW 100% | Inch off the ground | Back GB Knob till the sound is almost gone...

OK... Where do I start here... Hunting... *shrug* EVERTHING! Right... Not so much relics... but coins, jewlry, gold....

I have IRON / Foil Notched out...

Do I start in ALL Metal Mode and Switch to DISC Mode to PinPoint or just search in DISC mode?

Thank you for your patience with my ignorance... I promise to learn and assist the next generation...

If you are looking for places to go coin hunting, go to places where people congregate. Parks, beaches, ball parks, creeks, rivers, old churches and schools. Make sure you check local regulations and laws. Also, look for old home sites. As kid growing up, I am sure you lost things along the way. Well, so did other kids and now is the chance to find it. I grew up in East Texas. The home my parents owned, was one of the original homesteads in the count. The back room was built around a log cabin that still has the gun ports built in and the well was beneath the floor. A lot of old artifacts, coins, arrowheads axes and things like that have been found there.

The all metal mode will have you going crazy in many areas. Try disc mode and control you sensitivity. You may get better results. Also, avoid the back yard, wives get very territorial.

Good luck

The easiest way to do it is to turn GB 100% CW.This puts it into preset mode...OK.
Then turn sens to about 12 oclock...usually good.
Then turn DISC 100% CCW that puts your machine to signal All Metals...OK.
Then when your machine signals its found something it will be in one of three tones...low,med,high...OK.
The low tone usually tells you IRON/FOIL/NICKLES........med tone pull tabs/screw caps......high tone coins/silver...OK.
When you hear a signal look at your display,it should give you an approximate reading on what it is,if it jumps back and forth between, say dime and pull tab more than likely its junk, but if it stays a strong signal, say on dime dig it!
Always start in DISC mode, when you find a strong target, then press ALL METAL button......OK.
In ALL METAL there will be a monotone sound...as your coil passes over the metal it will get louder...when the sound gets the loudest dig down directly under the center ring of your coil...you can use something to place in the spot so you dont forget where it is...just dont use something metal, some people use golf tees.
As your knowledge about the machine progresses you can then experiment with the other options.

OH yeah and put back all divots you've dug that will make your wife happier and is a good practice in the field, also throw away all trash you find and you wont have to dig it again later...:detecting:

Worst thing you can do is to re-bury the pull tabs and screw caps you find....next time you come to the location, your most likely just going to dig them up again...believe me...when you get rid of these items, you can come back in a week, and find things in the same spot your detector may have missed the first time because of the trash...

Well FooserPaul have you found anything yet worth mentioning?
Have you figured out where to dig under yor coil to find the target?

Im like a parent whose teenager just went out on thier fist date...

Well... I only had abour 30 minutes of light left after getting home... I hit a spot and Started in DISC mode... in my 30 minutes I dug up 1 Budwiser bottle cap... a piece of scrap metal and 2 crushed cans...

I atleast feel like I know how to use the MD now... I need to dial the sensitivity down from 12:00 to 10:00 I believe... Not too sure about where as was as I was getting some hits, but when I tried to pinpoint the dig spot, they seemed to big, or seemed to follow a line like a wire or something...

I wanna get up and hit a local beach in the am. Tommorow afternoon I was to do some online investigated and plan a day outting... I got all the patience and desired needed to learn this fine hobby...

Thanks for checking up on me... :)

Paul

I can find nails and junk metal buried around the backyard. The MD did a great job of cleaning up after the construction crew finished the garage.
BUT! I can't get this BH Landstar to find a vial of gold I put on the floor - from my panning in the Feather River.
Unfortunately I don't have a manual and my DW sent the tape to the thrift shop will all the other VHS tapes.
Anyone have a manual in a file??

Robert

OK...I will take these in order...

FooserPaul...Try this when pin-pointing...Hit the ALL-Metal Button with the coil at waist height...Lower coil to touch the ground...hit Ground-Trac button...if detector makes no noise, your set...if it does, leave coil on ground and hit Ground-Trac again...You should hear no sound...Move coil over target..If target appears to large, move coil to edge of target so sound just dies off...leave coil about 1" off ground and hit All-Metal Mode button...target area should have shrunk a bit...you can do this about 2 times effectively...each time moving the coil to the edge of the target area, and hitting the All-Metal button again...This is called de-tuning the ALL-Metal mode...Hope this helps...

Saqunebi...I have no idea why your detector will not detect the gold...A vial of that size should show up in the Pull-Tab or Screw Cap range...If you have the 4" coil, try that on it, and make sure your on a non-conductive surface...you probably have nails in the floor....put vial on the grass...If it still does not work, I would have the machine re-tuned...Also, make sure the DISC/NOTCH knob is fully CCW (lowest setting).

Thanks for the reply.
Even though the unit would find nails and trash with the coil cable only partially connected
it worked much better on the gold once it was completely connected. Duh!

...and it should find gold with no problem. gold comes in very low on the scale, so like bhlandstar says, you should turn disc. all the way clockwise. and jack up the sensitivity. gold machines and metal detectors are completely different in their make up and uses. good luck, and hh,
