Beyond a Compadre

Got into a discussion with another friend who also detects. He is 100% Garrett and has been for decades. I wanted to know what is gained going from a Compadre to another Tesoro detector. We were discussing this and frankly since all my detecting experience is really beep and dig with older Garrets and now my Compadre I was not sure. I understand the Tiger Shark being a water detector but what about the other machines in the Tesoro lineup in layman's language. Do the machines work deeper, separate targets better, or just offer a better job overall than my Compadre. Of course in practice in the field he is busy checking his meters and I'm just digging more holes to see what is there. Anyway, so advice from the more experienced Tesoro users would be welcomed.

First off you gain the ability to change coils on the other detectors. You also gain manual ground balance on some models, a sensitivity adjustment, target ID, pin point button, different operating frequency, and possibly more depth of detection, depending on the model you choose.
The Compadre is a great detector that can out perform some more expensive detectors. It is a turn on and go detector anyone can operate and start finding things right off the bat with. For it's performance and it's 160.00 price tag new with a lifetime warranty,
it is king of its class. The Compadre will find tiny gold chains other much more expensive detectors will pass right over without a signal. Everyone should have a Compadre in their arsenal of detectors, it's that good of a machine........HH

Joe Dirt pretty well covers it. Having owned a fair number of detectors, mostly Tesoro, I can say that many more or less average depth targets can be found as easily with the Compadre as with any decent detector regardless of brand. However, the coil changing capability and the addition of adjustable ground balance can enhance the detecting capabililiites from a bit to a good deal depending on location, ground conditions etc.
