[attachment 18816 MVC-028F.JPG][attachment 18817 MVC-029F.JPG][attachment 18818 MVC-030F.JPG]used the t2 today in 2 different locations--first I found this 1896-0 dime and as you can see I hit it with the digger---$350.00 shot--the reason was partly my fault but the main reason was the large coil on the t2 pinpointed the dime a little off center---the other item I found at another location--it's a silver nugget--don't know if it's natural or a melted coin???---use caution when digging with the large coil!!!

did you rick the coin because you didn't think it was gonna be such a good one or has the site produced thes for you in the past?

AT THIS SITE BUT THE PLACE HAS A LOT OF TRASH---THE DIME WAS ONLY 4" DEEP AND WAS PERFECTLY FLAT AND SOUNDED LIKE TRASH--(BROKEN RATTY SIGNAL)SO I GOT A LITTLE CARELESS!!!---BUT THE T2 DID PINPOINT IT OFF CENTER BY ABOUT 2" !!!

If you listen and pay attention, you can tell if the coin is tilted or flat. Use the depth reading and the audio to get it in the center of the coil. Detune once or twice if you need to. Takes a bit of practice, but once you get it down, you'll not scar another coin. You can also turn 90 degrees to pinpoint again if that will help.

Most of the time you must detune.

Nice coin, even with the gash.

Buy a pinpointer as they help and tilted coins or operator not used to a new machine can easily be the problem...Many detune just for this reason..

I never have had the machine miss the pinpoint, however I have missed the pinpoint.....especially with a new machine. Thats why we must practice practice practice....Hey by the way did i mention practice makes perfect!!

Relative to this, I tried air tests of the pinpoint and all metal mode.

You can have what seems to be a pinpoint in a couple other spots on the coil, but the center was always strongest of all. Lifting the coil higher away from a shallow object gave a single pinpoint tone that centered right under the little circle molded into the coil.

Pineapple also reported some issues with shallow objects, read his posts for more info on that. Again, lifting the coil further helped him as well.

I also rely on an electronic pinpointer. But my digging technique is such that I'd probably mar the coin anyway! ;)

I have done that to a 1906-0 barber dime myself and it was an EF example too, so don't feel bad, it happens to all of us sometime or another.
