Better to melt or sell?

EasySwing

New member
I have a question.

Is it better dollar wise to sell a gold band on Craigslist rather than sell it for melt value?

Marty

I believe you will find it will take you longer but you should yield more for a nice looking ring selling it as jewelry as opposed to just getting melt value. It depends on the ring or piece obviously! If you are looking for fast cash though selling for melt is definately the quicker way too $$$! If you are selling for melt use ARA,

http://www.aragold.com/index.html

They give you spot price less 2%! That is unheard of! Also, I heard they are buying diamonds now too although I'm not sure how that works yet. I hope this was somewhat helpful.

HH,

Mike

In Washington State some folks had very dangerous experiences advertising jewelry on Craig's List. There were a couple of home invasions and some people assaulted. I guess that can happen anywhere but to me, telling somebody you have jewelry on the internet is like waving a red flag in front of a bull. jim

I sold a ring on eBay but it seems to sell better when it is a designer ring like Cartier like the one I found. Also if it is unique. A plan gold band probably won't get much of a response. And then there are fees to pay as well

found jewlery .the bad thing is there is about 300% mark up in it new..to sell them on Ebay you almost always need an appraisal and thats about $80 . most of the time i just send them to ARA (except the ones my wife takes!) and save the stones for trade later or have a nice ring built from them. iv found over 200 rings in the last 3 years and only sold 3 of them and they were REAL nice ones..too nice to melt.and with 5 kids and 9 grand kids i have no shortage of fingers to fill.good luck.

Best to meet strangers from Craig's list or other ad's at the parking lot of the police. This way you won't get shot in face in front of you're family! You're right! Be safe, be vigilant!:usaflag:
