photo enhanced a bit... are those holes punched right through? I believe I can see the leafy pattern you are talking about around them.

Still think it's just a nice cloak button. I don't know of any books that specifically tell you the manufacturers of these types of buttons. Thought most were made on site by a button sales man. Believe some were made on rotary dies and then sold door to door after gilting. That pattern screams of a 1793 era to me. It looks like the artistic "feel" that was around when the Chain Cent and all the edge scrolling was being done on our large cents. Just my opinion though. Anybody else??
