Traveled out to the another park today and had better luck but had to pick alot more junk. I mean loads It was so thick I had to remove it to see if anything underneath. I finally started pulling dimes and nickels and found 1 whole with 3 quarters Gonna have to head back there and do more clean up. Was out about 2 hours today. Took the kids along again and had a ball.

Digging up so many tabs gets annoying tho heh.

You are right on track Stix, just keep doing what you're doing. Eventually one of those nickels or pull tabs is going to be a gold ring and make it all worth while.

Yea it is getting better and better. I tell ya what tho that pro-pointer saves me so much time. That thing is key for me. I actually thought I lost it at the park as I was grabbing stuff out of the car and could not find it. What a sinking feeling that was!!!! I even drove back to the park to look and just as I pulled in and got out I looked in cubby behind seat. Seems it rolled into it.

What a relief!!

Hey, it don't get better than that at most parks and lots. That really isn't all that much junk - take a look at my post from yesterday.

And as has been said, the tabs and foil = gold and jewelry. They tell you that lots of people have been there, and an abundance of people increase your odds of finding the good stuff we seek.

Now, here is the paradoxical Truth: there isn't that much jewelry and gold out there.
It gets misleading to read the posts on the internet, like here at findmall, because it seems that everybody and their cat is finding the stuff. What they don't tell you is how long and how hard they've searched to find the stuff. Or how much trash they dug to get there.
Just have a look at John B's finds; nice goodies accompanied by huge mounds of trash.

So just think of every dig as healthful deep-knee bending, fresh air sucking exercise. Then when you find something great - and you will - it will be icing on the cake.

Well was out tinkering for a hour or so today. Back at one of the parks and found another 2 bucks in change and also found a bullet.... Dunno how that shot got there as it was like it landed there at the end of its travel thru the air as its not mushroomed. Pretty dang cool. Its bigger than a .22 and was about 8" down. Also have a dang rock that chimes in as nickel ?? Weird. Could not stay long as even with bug spray the dang mosquitoes are unreal.

Tomorrow morning I am going to the local beach and going in the water I did a river boat launch area and the ace did fine. Now for the fun of it going in the freshwater and along the beach

Bullets are very common finds - this is America, after all. Without knowing the diameter of the bullet and it's construction, it is hard to say what it is - I have found everything from .58 cal Minie balls to live .30-06 rounds when detecting. I even found a whole gun once. Jacketed bullets generally do not "mushroom" as you put it, so that is normal.
The rock is possibly what is called a "hot rock." They are mineralized and will set off a detector. It could also be a piece of smelting slag, which can give the same effect. It could remotely be a meteorite, too, which would get some people around here pretty tickeled.
They tend to ring in as nickel, if I'm not mistaken.
