Better Balance With The 10.5 DD Coil

Finished my rod project, a little "Frankentector". It seems lighter, but balances better than the stock rod. Anyways, I can keep my stock rod in the box unused along with the stock coil. I also have the 305 head that I can switch with and use.........HH MO

The whole upper rod is Whites, but I guess you could just use the Xterra handle part. The straight part is the mid shaft from a M-6 or Classic ID. You have to re-drill the button holes 180 degrees to match the Xterra lower rod push in button. The arm cuff is Fisher and the "Stand" is a whites armcuff turned upside down. For some reason using the straight part instead of the "S" part makes a difference..................MO

Thanks MO, I think I'll have to give that a try. It sure would be nice if the " X " wasn't so nose heavy with the 10.5 DD coil.

Congrats on the new 705! I have a 70 and want one too because I want the off-set tracking for Prospecting.

"I hunted a early 1900's house yard..and got a old ornate gold plated brass wedding band that has 14k on the inside."
Some of the old timers were cheap, maybe an arranged marriage! :lmfao:
"It is not front heavy like the stock rod."

"...but balances better than the stock rod."

A lot of work and a real nice job, but for better balance it would have been easier to just put the stock rod and/or round 10.5" DD coil on backwards.

Tried the old coil on backwards when I had mu Xterra 70. I did not think it worked very well...........MO

Ok, then try the stock middle shaft on backwards OR here I found a factory made straight shaft: The Anderson X-TERRA (straight) Shaft is 30.5" long with adjustable handle and armcuff. This shaft also comes with an Anderson Stand and instructions. NOTE: Black Only.

Anderson Detector Shafts are available to be purchased at Kellyco:

But yes is better to make your own shaft like you have done, with the self accomplishment and satisfaction makes a person a much more focused detectorist.
