Best Whites water machine choice ?

Hello everyone. Before you say it, I've already posted this on the beach/water forum but haven't recieved the info I'm looking for. I'm still trying to get it nailed down to which detector I want to start shopping around for. Open to any advice but I've narrowed it down to picking between one of the Whites PI or VLF water machines. If anyone hunts and/or knows what is the best machine for Central Ca beaches ( Carmel/Monterey/Santa Cruz area ) let me know what you think. I have quite a bit of black sand on the beaches here but I don't have any idea if there's a deep iron problem at any of them. PI or VLF ? Which model ? Why ? All advice welcome. Thanks.

Some beaches have such heavy mineralisation that a VLF underwater machine cant cope. Some ocean areas too have higher concentrations of salt and also causes operational probs. PI.

Thanks for that B.T

I wish that I could say to go with a VLF unit for the better discrimination but there's no way. Depth and stability have to rule and that means PI.

Thanks nw1886. that's what I'm thinking from all that I've read but since i have such little practical experience I just want to hear what others think or know. I've figured on geting a PI and need to decide what's my best choice between the PI pro and the Dual Field PI. Having a little trouble finding out the differences between the two_Once I determine that I'll start hunting for a good deal on one. Thanks again.

I don't know much about the PI's. I had one for awhile but I figured I was so oriented to being a "land lubber" that It killed me to see it stay on the shop wall. I did take it out to old sites to check grids I'd hunted with my DFX. Did find stuff but it is definitely meant for sand and water. If I was near good beaches...a must have. Good luck on your decision and others will be able to give good advice.

"... If I was near good beaches...a must have." My thinking exactly nw1886. I live right at the ocean and have been surfing for 35+ years so I'm comfortable and familiiar with the ocean. I LOVE land hunting but I figure why waste such a "golden" opportunity. At this point, I'm thinking the Dual Field PI is the one I'm looking to get, couple of responses recommended that over the Surfmaster PI pro, so that's what I'm starting to search out a good deal on. Thanks for the input.

Dual Field if you don't have a bunch of iron goes deep and doesn't miss a thing. Just get a straight shaft as it increases your reach by 25 pct or so.

Thanks for that S.S.T. I have read a couple of things about the straight shaft being preferable to the S- shaft for balance but I didn't know about the reach. I would have never thought to ask about that. The one thing I don't know is if the beaches here have a lot of deep iron trash. I've asked if anyone knows(Monterey Bay/ Santa Cruz Ca. area ) or of any way to find out but haven't received any responses to that yet. As of right now I'm assuming there's not and looking for a good deal, possibly trade, on a Dual Field.

got iron ? bhid
i use it in az on the very hot beaches
& i dont have to deal with all the iron the pi`s love

Just my thoughts, SOV/GT or Excalibur II for the trashy areas and a Whites D.F. for the rest of the area out deeper in the water, I use em all in fresh water lakes and D.F. will find the deeper Gold and after you use it for awhile you can tell alot of the trash from Gold & coins.
H.H.

All the input is appreciated. I'm going to buy/trade for a DF. If anyone has one they're looking to sell then PM me. Thanks again.
