Best way to start using new At Pro?

Shimloom

New member
My new At pro is now on the way and I am very excited about getting to use it. Which mode is best to start with? I have used a Tesoro for 20 years, but this detector has more bells and whistles.
Any advice welcome. Thanks!

Craig

Pro mode zero disc and iron disc between 25&28 and if your hunting trashy sites invest in a 5x8" Garrett coil.

Congrats on your purchase!! I got my AT Pro about a month ago. I pretty much run mine how 88junior said on pro mode zero. I am still learning the machine and training my ears. I have only detected a few years and owned 1 other detector (Bounty Hunter QuickDraw II) but I really love the AT Pro.

PRO ZERO WITH IRON DISC @29 GROUND BALANCE ALWAYS SET AT 86 (PARKS AND SCHOOL ONLY) and THE 5X8 DD EQUALS A LOT OF GOODIES!!!!!!

It has a narrower field of detection so therefore it separates the trash from good targets better so you will be digging less trash. But if your hunting a area where there's no trash use the stock 8.5x11" coil for added depth and coverage.

Hi, I respect all the answers.
I think the best way to get to know your machine is a configuration Pro Zero, ground balance depends soil type and opt for zero discrimination iron and dig all signals. The effort of the holes that you make, will be your best teacher.
Then you'll know how much iron disc apply and if you need other coils.

Thanks gentlemen for the comments! The detector came Tuesday, got it assembled last night. It's setting next to my bed (have to keep an eye on it) ready to go. I will heed your advice and give it a go this weekend.

Craig

Pro zero , no discrimination , leave iron audio off....it dont do anything for you unless you are using discrimination. This gives you the opportunity to learn all the different sounds coming from the detector and get to know it better. Dig everything above iron. Even after getting to know the machine this way its still a very effective setting to use. As with any detector , if you use any discrimination it can cost you some depth and can discriminate out some good items that happen to be near iron. Its noisy this way but in time you get so you can mentally filter out a lot of the extra low tones coming from iron trash and it wont matter.

That's funny did the same when I first got the Pro. Spent valentine day with my Pro instead of my wife..LOL

My limited intelligence had me running mine in standard mode for a while. I was used to the ACE 250 so it was reassuring in that regard. Later on I realized that running Pro Zero was the way to go. Don't worry if the machine feels coil heavy at first, you get used to it.

when I first got mine back in 2011 I set everything to standard mode and placed some targets on and just below the surface. I did this on and off for about a week and learned what the tones were telling me. Then I started to use the discriminate and saw how that functioned.
If you take the time to learn the machine you will love it. I have had mine in the desert, Atlantic ocean, Pacific Ocean Fresh water and just dry land. Found some really cool things. Don't be afraid to ask questions. A lot of people on this site can give you some in depth tips and tricks.
