Best Way to Relic Hunt with the A T Gold in a fairly clean site

All Metal mode listen for those sharp, quick hits. There is like a spring in the sound sort of like the tone is trying to hurry up. Remember deep targets will not read accurately on the target ID until you dig down a few inches. Check ground balance often. The long, wide, drawn-out tones you are reading the halo around iron. The edges are not sharp. Practice using Iron Audio on every target and dig them all until you learn it. When in doubt, dig. Start your iron discrimination maybe mid-twenties then raise it up if needed. Or even go lower if you are not getting a lot of iron. If you are overwhelmed by iron (yes, it happens) you can always use DISC 1 but you will lose some depth. My bet is you will find targets deeper than 6-8 inches--that was what the old detectors got and the AT will do better even in DISC 1. Add two inches for All Metal--I get 12 inches on coins/large gold ring.

Glad to help. Once you start finding good stuff, remember where it read on the target ID and depth. The deepest targets may not give a nujmber at all so once you get into a hot area, dig everything that gives a good tone. Remember ground balance often (use All Metal and no iron discrimination to be sure you are over clean ground when you balance). This will get you the deep stuff if you do.

I gree with Mike Plus it depends on the ground too. I hunt with the AT Gold in Culpeper, Va and the ground is "hot" All Metal mode, iron audio on. this ground is so bad you have to dig everthing. A lot of bullets come in as iron!! JMO

Sometimes there isn't much you can do if the ground is killer hot,. If lower sensitivity does not work just use DISC 1 and lose some depth. The hotter the ground the more you need an accurate ground balance. When I get numbers ways off, that's a signal to rebalance. Yes, the Gold just kills lead--need earplugs. LOL.

There are a few spots that the ground is alittle hot and when the ground is real dry it affects the detectors depth,Have you used the 8.5x 11 coil on the AT Gold, just wondering how it works in the open fields.
Thanks
Rick

No, have not used the 8.5 x 11. Larger coils go deeper on large targets and cover more ground, but they may require a lower sensitivity setting in hot ground. But if you have a productive area and not too much trash, the larger coil will get the deeper targets. Especially if you are out where you can dig with a shovel. Down side is heavier and not so easy to work around brush. I would use the smaller coil first then go back over the good areas with the larger one.
