Best way to attach magnets to the inside of a scoop

I currently have a scoop that I tie wrapped two heavy 3" x 1/2" speaker magnets to each side of the scoops side. My next step is to cut down on the weight and increase the magnetic strength by using those Neodyne magnets. I'll have to secure them with adhesive. Or drill a hole in them and mount with nut and bolt. Not sure how brittle they are. I've seen other treasure hunters use silicon and glue the speaker magnets to the inner sides of their scoop. Any words of wisdom in attaching these new type of magnets? Thanks.

Just buy the neodymium ring magnets an use bolts.. Can't drill them.. Try here.. http://www.kjmagnetics.com

..............I just pop rivoted speaker magnets inside the scoop using the holes mounted on the speaker itself. .

Never had one fall out yet...............see ya mark

I've herd silicon in the past and it may work just fine. But I think I'll try the JB Weld first.

Is the purpose of this to separate the junk from the good stuff?

Just crack open an old computer hard drive. On the inside they use earth magnets (very strong),but very
small. If you can get them out with a screwdriver you have mounting holes on either side.

I've got some in my scoop and its surprising all the small pieces of iron you catch i.e. iron flakes, tacks, Staples ,small screws ,nails and my two favorites bottle caps and hair pins...

>>Just crack open an old computer hard drive.<<

I too use these. Easy to mount and easy to clean if you mount with a tie wrap.

>>Why use them?<<

They can save TIME. Small items fall thru the scoop. I don't like to re scoop for nails and such.

An the beach...small rusty items ID as gold (stud earing).

Have Fun

Hot glue has worked for me.

If you are going to use them in the salt be sure to encapsulate them in epoxy or they will swell and eventually split apart

Try wire to hold them in place.

I went a feed store and bought "Cow Magnets" and hold them in place with plastic wire ties; never had one come out. I have them in all my scoops and I keep a bottle cap attached to them so when someone is watching and they ask "what did you find?" I pull out the bottle cap and say "just a darn bottle cap" and I have palmed the ring or whatever. They always move away and leave me in peace.
And yes the catch the hair pins, etc.
