Best used detectors to mod????

Orgelkraft

New member
I have an electronics repair background and I'm a ham... I am looking for a project. I am curios... if I pickup a used detector to mod, which one is going to be the best to tweak? I would REALLY like to add manual ground balance to an inexpensive detector to use in shallow salt water... (WHEN I drop it no big deal) I detect more to be outdoors than to find anything.... I COULD use dowsing rods, but they aren't ELECTRONIC!!! LOL

With all that background you should know the only mod for any detector is a waterproof Otter box . And although I live thousands of miles from saltwater I think it would be next to impossible to ground balance a detector correctly due to the negative effects of salt . Other than that point why not pick up a detector made for water use to begin with and them attempt to make it better . Most of today's units with all the chips and processors and defy modifications electrical n in nature . If you want to us a newer unit you can Otter box just about anything you can fit into a box and they make many sizes . And if your going to mod an older unit's guts inside then with your back round you should know what to do already . Maybe better info can be found here < http://www.geotech1.com >.
Good Luck ! Woodstock

Skip the modding, build your own, there's more satisfaction to building something equal to or better than many factory units.
Best source of info is the Geotech forum. VLF, PI, IB.......................

You want cheap and fun to mod look no further than the tesoro compadre.
