best underwater metal detector per price

i'll go a bit further. which tesoro can be submerged while in use? i'll mainly be wading, not snorkeling or diving. but the unit will get a dunking ......which tesoros are designed for this...and which offers the best value?

mr peter d from brissie i haven't used one,but if i was going to walk down into the water and get my feet wet,i'd be looking seriously at the sand shark"i think thats the pi one".up north queensland we have a lad called ivan the invinsible he wades down into the water up to his shoulders.crocidiles don't seem to worry him ,they do me ! blowfly. hh

The Tiger Shark and the Sand Shark. The Tiger is a killer machine for FRESH water sites, hits hard on small gold, but it doesnt operate good at all on most SALT water beaches. The Sand Shark is a PI unit, and as result has no discrimination but handles that mineralization of salt water beaches very well.

Since you indicated SALT water, I would go with the Sand Shark.

If you've decided it has to a Tesoro then get a Sand Shark. If your beaches aren't really clean be prepared to dig a lot of trash. There's a few other very good dual/multi frequency machines out there that work great in salt water. Tesoro only offers a single frequency (Tigershark) and a pulse (SandShark).

cheers all for the replies......

is it bad form to ask what other brands i could look at ? i used this forum as i already have a tesoro...a pm will do..cheers.

Pete, go over to the Beach and Water Detecting Forum. After reading some of the posts there you should have a good idea what most folks use in salt water. You'll usually get a lot of info if you post your question there. Good luck.
