Best time to buy a new detector??

Hello all,

After lurking on all the message boards, I think I am ready to try this hobby out. Thanks to all the good posts on this website I think I will be going with the MXT. I have called a few dealers getting prices on the units of which I was interested. Here's one:

XLT - $729
MXT - $679
M-6 - $599

Isured shipping included. All come with free Bullseye II pinpointer.
XLT & MXT also include White's headphones.

What do you think? Seems prices are pretty consistent everywhere, but some dealers say they dont have some of the freebies to go along with the detectors. Is there a best time to buy new? I see some mention on here about certificates from Whites to buy accessories, was this just a onetime offer? Also thought about buying used (prices are pretty high on E-Bay. Gotta wonder if people researching detectors realize that the prices on most website are list prices (not out the door). Appreciate any advice!

Beware of some on-line dealers who are selling you returned, reconditioned, or faulty detectors and representing them as "new". You may save a few bucks and get some extras thrown in but, to me, it's not worth the price you can potentially pay. Also, if you return items, you have to pay a 20-30% restocking fee! I got this information from a very honest, reliable local dealer. So...my advice is to buy from a local dealer who will sell AND service your detector. They are also a great source of information on how to properly use your detector re: local conditions; local metal detecting clubs; etc. You will save time & $ in the long run.

I would have preferred buying from a local dealer. Closest one I could find is almost 200 mile away. Ended up buying from a local dealer (local in MN). He had better price then the online people. Unit was new in a sealed box. He still had some of the package deals left over from Xmas. Shipped it the same day I ordered it. "Metal Detectors of Minneapolis"

I didn't have a local dealer within 200 miles either. Yesterday I bought a MXT 300 which has the best coil white offers on it. I also bought
a 6in accelerator for trashy areas. Things happen and sometimes you could get a lemon. The people I deal with at Kellyco will work
with you on your problems and help you get them straightened out.
