best tesoro for relic hunting

I have a deleon. It works pretty good for relics, but is there a better tesoro for relics I might want to look at? Like a tejon or something?

With the emergence of the tejon, every other past and current production models of Tesoro brand detectors became as obsolete as the dinasours...at least for relic hunting so the two of them say. This also applies to every other brand relic detector as well---The tejon smokes them all according to them. No one from Tesoro has ever refuted their proclamtion about the tejon's performance, so I suppose they go along with the testers agenda. If something too harsh is stated about this machine of "Theirs", not Tesoro's...that post also goes the way of the dinasours. I suggest strongly that you pick one up and compare it to what you allready have or may be thinking of having before you rely on what has been proclaimed by some. Good Luck

I am familiar with both the BandidoII Umax and the Tejon having used them for relic hunting. I am currently using the Tejon for my relic adventures. It is a pretty reliable detector, and I have had some good results when taking the tejon back to my worked out sites. The Tejon is set up with a higher gain, so it is especially hot on small items.
I also took it to the beach and was really impressed with its depth and sensitivity in dry sand.
All in all, I fell that from my seven years experience with Tesoro brand machines they are really good relic hunters.
p.s. I do also own, and hunt with other brand name machines.

The DeLeon is an EXCELLENT unit and performs very well. It has some features you will miss by using the Tejon. With that said, the Tejon is definately the deeper seeking and it is also hotter on the really smaller size targets than the DeLeon. You must keep it ground balanced even in "DISC" mode to get the most out of it,...which some people dislike.
Personally,...I'd go with a Tejon !
Thanks !

from the 2003 gnrs tesoro team you will see that some of the other current and older tesoros scored much higher than the tejon. Newer ain't necessarily better!

Most any of the Tesoro detectors can be used for relic hunting. I've used most of them over the years and although some perform better in certain scenario's, they all will work. Is there an absolute best model for relics? No. This applies to any brand or model made. If there were truly a King of Relic Detectors, that's all I would use and recommend for relic hunting. Fact is, experience is paramount for relic hunting. I can still find great relics with the Silver Sabre Plus (circa 1986 model), but with the new coils and even lighter weight of the Silver U/Max, that detector makes good sense for an entry level detector. Today, I would recommend the Eldorado, Tejon, Lobo ST or Cortes. But only after knowing your personal requirements and hunting conditions, and your current budget, would I recommend one particular model. The Tejon or Lobo will generally give you the most depth and sensitivity to small targets, but the Eldorado will do a good job too, and for those who prefer a target ID detector, the Cortes does fine. My honest opinion on the DeLeon is it makes a better all around coin and jewelry detector than a dedicated relic detector. I want All Metal with Manual Ground balance. Hope this helps. Good hunting, David @ Dixie

I might look into a tejon or cortes once i save up some cash. Ive only been into relic hunting for about 8 months now, so i might stick with the deleon until i personally get better rather than the machine.

And the proto testers have made the comment that all Tesoro's are obsolete for relic hunting since the introduction of the Tejon. That Old Ron is a significant statement, endorsed by Tesoro on their once "Official Website", so I reckon it's true. That then answers James's question. So if you own any other Tesoro machine, and use it for relic hunting, you have two choices....Use an inferior detector or reach into your wallet and buy a tejon. HH

A lynch mob will come after you, but its all for the good of the hobby!
