best procedure for changing between coils

I just got a 5x8 DD coil for my ATP and was wondering if there is a procedure for switching between coils? I thought I read somewhere that a reset is required for the machine to "recognize" the new coil, any truth to that.......?

unscrew the coil connector and then undo the coil bolt, put the new coil on and then reconnect. You do not have to "reset" the machine. If you would like to hold the power button done until it resest.

A reset is not technically needed , I usually don't and have had no ill effects....works just as it should. If you prefer to though , just hold down the power button until you hear the double beep.

It's always a good practice to reset the detector to default when changing coils. Hold the on/off button until you hear the beeps.

When you do a reset , it does 4 things . It automatically puts you in Std. Coins mode , puts you in F3 frequency , puts your sensitivity at TWO BARS BELOW full, and ground balances you at 80. That's it......:surprised: Garrett recommends it to be done because as they put it ... " These are optimal operating features and should be tried for testing your detector."

I forget where I read it but they actually admitted the reset does not actually tune the coil to the detector. ( even though one of the videos makes that claim ) The detector sees all coils the same and does not alter software settings for different coils.

So it sure does not hurt anything to do the reset , except for possible wear and tear on the power button which could be an issue for chronic resetters , but all things considered its not a necessary step unless you just want to.

I think it's a prudent practice myself. Don't know if it helps, but doesn't hurt, either. HH jim tn

Thanks everyone for the Intel, I think I will do the reset just to start at a baseline with the new coil. All I need now is some decent weather to try it out.
