Best plug tool yet!

CanadianDigger

New member
I saw this at the HomeDepot.....had to buy it...
Has to be the easiest and fastest way to dig a plug. Tried the handheld version....too flimsy...this thing is STRONG!

Couple of tips though....

* Where the foot pegs mount to the shaft, weld a small triangulated piece of metal at the top AND bottom (gusset), this will prevent the pegs from tearing away from the body after repeated uses.

* Also on the pegs, would be a good idea to add some traction tape...slipping off this thing REALLY REALLY hurts....TRUST ME.

Hope this helps ...

... I like that store bought tool and I think it could solve several problems. Ive seen them and I think they are pretty neat. Alas, I feel it adds a few worries, too. I also tried the hand held ones, and they arent worth crap in a hardened off sod. SO, I got to thinking and came up with this little gem.

Is still uses foot power, but is decidedly less expensive than the store bought variant. [Problem number one with the store model]

It also totes alot easier, as I just pop it in my Treasure Wise pouch. Nothing I hate worse than an arm load of tools and gadgets, while Im trying to detect - or that I have to take in and out of my car. [Problem number two - you gotta store and carry that sucker].

To use it, simply press down firmly over your pinpointed target, twist your hand a little to get the cutting edge to bite and then stand up with your foot on the pluggers top and press down with your weight - Presto! You're Plugged! Maybe when I get too old to do much bending, Ill learn to appreciate the store model more.

It's constructed from 3" electrical tubing and a 3/8" threaded rod section with accompanying hardware. You could go to 4" conduit, too if you wanted. Nothing could be easier to make.

It could be improved by adding another set of cross rods at right angles to the ones seen. This would provide better stability as you press down with the foot. And maybe some saw teeth could be filed into it... For now, I just keep it sharp.
