Very new to detecting, but really really want to find the old coins. I`ve found plenty of newer ones. I`m using the Ace 150. Plan on upgrading in spring. thanks, Joe

i would try going to an old site that doesn't exist anymore i am also trying to find old coins with my ace 250

I went to a place where two houses were torn down over the week end. 6 wheat's, 1919 nickel. That is all it takes. I have done a lot better. One old house gave up over 40 wheat's , 3IH, 4 war nickels, 2 buffalo's, 3 merc. and a lot of tokens.

I've actually found my oldest coins within parks that have been around quite some time.

Now that's the kind of list I wanna start havin, John n WvA. I'll get there. I have a few very old sites I wanna spend all day on, but works been workin me, if you know what I mean.

start with asking your Friends & family if they live in old houses or start door knocking in older areas asking if you can detect there front lawn. a good place to find old spots & do research is in the local library. talk to older people about who they did as kids and were they did it. hope this helps.

I drive around town and look at the foundations of the houses, that tells the age. When I spot the old ones I go up and knock on the door and ask them for permission to detect their yard, I'd say I average 8 out of 10 who say yes. I noticed I have better luck with old people.

My wife and I own a home that is over 200 years old. We have found several really old coins right on our own property. Can't beat that...

1 1909 barber quarter, 4 indian heads 1865, 1871, 1883, 1889 , 2 silver dimes rosies, 1 1921 standing liberty, 1 1952 silver quarter, lots of nickels from the 40s and 50s, and a whole bunch of nice relics including 2 general service buttons, and i have found two silver rings, good luck

You're making out like a bandit bud. Hope you're sending pics and stories of those to Garrett to publish in their newsletter - The Searcher.

wish I had a 200 yr old house

No you don't. Really. Better just to visit.

My grandmother told me that when they were kids (1915), they got a nickel a year for fun. They generally spent it on a whole basket of fireworks for the 4th of July.

They were poor, but that will tell you what kind of coin circulation was going on - not much. Look at the mintage figures for coins. Low millions, and even less for some.

Prosperity didn't come to the US until after WW2 in 1945. But, at that time there were plenty of the coins you guys are finding still in circulation. Indians, Barbers, V nickels, so forth.
