Best Pinpointing Detectors

I'm not sure if pinpointing accuracy is a function of the detector, the coil or a combination of both. However, I find that I'm able to pinpoint targets better with my Whites and Tesoro machines than I am with my Soverign. Are certain detectors inherently better at pinpointing than others or are there other factors involved?

Mulifrequncey metal detectors such as the sovereign do not pinpoint well at all.Because of the additional frequnceys make the signal linger.Single frequency detectors pinpoint very well. The sovereign also only comes with a DD coil.We all know DD's are not good at pinpointing anyway. So you combine the broad band spectrum frequency of the sovereign with a DD and that is a hard combination to pinpoint with.I think now there is or was when i had one a aftermarket detech 6" concentric coil that i used on the sovereign because the concentric was so nice at pinpointing .

I would take exception to the statement above on multi frequencies being the problem. The White's V3i and DFX are also multi frequency machines that pinpoint just like the majority of single frequency machines. The Sovereigns with their DD coils do have a rather broad pinpoint area.

It takes a while to get good at pinpointing a Sovereign, took me a year at least to get comfortable with the Sovereign that was 18-20 years ago.

The better detectors for pinpointing are an old BFO, TR or the Roach detectors from the mid seventies. With the Roach, you hit the coin smack dead center everytime.

I'll post a quick pic of two rare Roach detectors, they still work.

It's hard to find something faster than a Tesoro at pinpointing. I don't have to cut a big plug to recover coins. Tesoro detectors zero in on them fast and accurately.

It depends on which coil I have on my GT as to the accuracy that I get pinpointing. With the wider center in the Ultimate 13" coil I have to be much more careful pinpointing than I do with other coils. If I take my time and am not hampered by other metals under the coil I can pinpoint quite accurately with the GT. For me it is all about taking my time and swinging the coil over the target from two or three different directions. I recently purchased a Ace 250 for my Grandchildren to use and I certainly do not think I would be anywhere near as accurate using it.

Put a little joey coil on the sov and pin pointing is as easy as on any machine.

There's lots of machines I have no experience with, but you start out praising Whites and Tesoros both of which I do have experience with. I've found both to be excellent machines to pinpoint with although I had to practice a bit with the widescan 6X10 on the Whites. They say pinpointing on the Tesoro Clean sweep is just off the tip which I found to be true and accurate with my detectors.

I found a 1866 2

my whites 5900 with the 5.3 coil is very acurate..so much so that i retrieve most targets with a screw driver.... the sov gt can pose pinpointing challenges ,but you can zero in much better if you read the target from 2 different right angles - in otherwords- X marks the spot... i find that the deeper the target the more acurate the gt is ,shallower targets no so much.... the gt is great for the beach and farm fields where pinpoint acuracy arent very important.... if working the park i use tha whites because neatness counts and i dont even need to dig ,i just stab and grab...
