Best of New England show (BONE)

Had a great day yesterday at BONE. A friend and I set up a display table and gave a talk on hunting cellar holes. It's amazing how good things look when you display them in a nice case. We also printed some pictures of fields and cellars and a few old maps and set them around the finds. Met some nice folks and saw some awesome finds. One was a Higley copper and a Mass. shilling smaller than a 3 cent piece, also a few 8 reales and nice buttons, including some Washington Inaugurals, one of which won first prize. I got a used detector in a Chinese auction, a Fisher 1236 -X or something. This was the 14th BONE show and hopefully not the last. It takes a lot of hard work and organizing and kicking butt to put this thing on and a big hand goes to Mr. Streeter for his efforts along with everyone else.

Here's a few pics, one of NH Bob and George Streeter, the organizer of the event. Streeter is explaining to Bob that he CANNOT have the Minelab jacket unless he sells everything on the table. Bob sold 4 machines, he did very well but you'll have to ask him about the jacket. That pic came out a little fuzzy, I think someone bumped into me. The other is of my display table. All in all, a very good day and for a worthy cause. God bless those little kids at St. Judes Hospital. Ron

Thanks all who helped with the show, that gives metaldetactors a good name to donate money to good causes.Maybe people wont look down on us.God bless all.

I'm curious to why you say that, as I wade/beach hunt most of the time, people are for the most part curious unless they've lost jewelry in the water, and then are delighted that I'm around. As far as the Archies, truth is some relic hunters have given others a bad name. The Archies are really reactionary as they see these bad acting relic hunters as grave robbers etc. And this doesn't just apply to relic hunters that use metal detectors, but Native American artifact hunters that go in and rip up Archie sites.

It's no different than any other hobby, look at 4-wheel'in/snowmobiling where you have drunken azzes that can't stay on the trails, insist on runnin' public roads, and tearing up farmer's fields etc.

People always hear about the bad stuff and never enough about the good things. Could you imagine the newspaper if it only printed good news? What would that be...one page?

Most people don't hear about the rings we detectorists have returned or the cases of historical items that were donated to town archives, or the money that was raised for charity. As in any sport, there a some bad eggs that make a name for themselves and give the whole sport a bad name. I think that was what crow duck meant. When I get turned down for permission to hunt, I always think that possibly that person had someone hunt there before and had a bad experience, so it gets shut down for all detectorists. Ron

Here are a couple pics of everyone readying for the hunt.

Looks like you guys had a good time and good weather to boot. I see Dollar Bill was out even with the oxygen, what a trooper he is. I keep going back to that Muster Field with every new machine I get. Only found a KG in the woods but the history of that place makes it worth it. Ron
