Best mode for relic hunting with X 70?

Jack Flynn

What would be the best or correct approach to relic hunt with my X 70. Coil selection, coin mode or prospect mode, all metal. Somebody guide me.....

Hello Jack,
I'm not an expert by any means, but for relic hunting I like the 10.5 7.5 kHz DD coil in All Metal. That coil will get DEEP and cover a lot of ground.

The definition of "Relic Hunting" can be painted with a rather broad brush. When I hit old ghost towns or some recreation sites that date from the latter 1800's thru the depression era, I am essentially "Relic Hunting". While I am primarily working these older sites for coins and trade tokens, I am more specifically after any decent small artifact such as buttons, bullets, buckles, thimbles, jewelry, etc., etc.

With the X-Terra 70 I favored All Metal (motion) for those with virtually no trash and few targets that were scattered, to using a Pattern discriminate mode with only knocking out -8 and -6, and on occasion -4. I always accepted -2, and quite often -4. If there are a lot of targets, desired and not, and/or building rubble and brush, I like a 6" concentric coil.

Just some thoughts.
