I just got into Mding about a year or so ago and my wife and I have found that we love hunting at the beach with our 3 year old son. No mosquitos and scenery is great.... We presently hunt with Whites MXT 300 and MXT Pro. I love the machines but I want to venture into the surf and need a waterproof machine, headphones etc. I would greatly appreciate it if some of you guys/gals let me know what you use for a setup not just your machine but also your scoop and so on. Thank-you. HH Jack from NH

Get a Garrett AT Pro. They cost almost half as much as most other machines and are simple to run. Then if you like water hunting you can move up to a high end machine if you so choose. Water hunting is not as easy as the experienced guys make it look on YouTube!!! Not to mention I run circles around a friend that has a MXT Pro when we are on the beach.

Go to the beach and talk with other hunters about what equiptment they use. Also renting machines may help you decide. They are a little high to rent but it may help you in the long run in finding a machine for you. Good luck. HH :minelab:

For salt water areas go with the Excalibur or the fisher CZ 20 or 21. Pulse machines are good also but they offer little or no discrimination.

RTG 6" aluminum scoop w/ stainless tip and grab handle. Line the bottom with a mesh to catch the small stuff. The two best water detectors were already mentioned. Or you could waterproof a Sovereign.
