Best MD for fresh water ?

Dear experienced members!
What is in your opinion the best metal detector for fresh water?

Thank you!

You are going to get a lot of answers on this one. My favorite toys are the Fisher CZ-21's. You can't possibly go wrong with one. I have a friend that swears by the White's Beach Hunter ID. Might be great for wading but for diving it was a PAIN. I also have a friend that swears by the Tesoro Tigershark. He does very well with it. And I have a friend that used the Minlab Excabular 1000. Also a fantastic machine.

I know some people here use Detector Pro machines. I don't know anyone that has one, but people do recomend them. I have no knowledge of them at all.

I used the Fisher 1280x Aquanaut for a long time. It was also a great machine.

Whatever machine you get I would recomend a 10" coil. It covers a lot of territory and you need that at a beach. IMHO.

Well here is my 2 cents!! Your going to get a lot of opinions!!

[size=medium]The best detector for water is the one YOU like the best. I know that isn't much help, but it's a true statement.

As for myself I use the
DetectorPro HeadHunter Wader. It's a killer unit on silver and rings. I have never found as many dimes with any detector as I have with this one. If this detector is that hot on small dimes you can imagine how it is on rings and other coins.

The best part is that when you're done in the water you can detect the dry sand and then head for a park and do some coin shooting. It's a great all around detector. There are no controls on the shaft as they are all in the headset; and it's so light I can detect for hours with no fatigue.

Just as a point of info, you can use this detector in salt water as well as fresh. I've done both and it works real well in each situation. :detecting:

Good luck on which ever one you decide on.

There are more options in this category than salt water options (VLF type), that's for sure. I have never used one, but understand the Tesoro Tiger Shark is hard to beat for sensitivity in fresh water and will even signal gold chains (difficult for most any detector). I would recommend the 8" coil option for fresh water, on whatever you decide, as the fresh water I hunted was hypertrashy and target separation is very necessary. The other options are Excal 800/Excal II 800, CZ20/21-8, 1280X-8, Headhunter Diver or Wader or Pirate 8", White's BHID (coil is unweighted and not recommended). Any of these choices will more than likely work well in a fresh water application and you will have good discrimination on any of them, as well. Only use enough discrimination to cut iron though on any choices, no more, even then sometimes targets are missed. Let us know what you decide.

You will indeed get alot of responses on this one. Depending on what you want to spend....on the low side and not for diving, but very good in freshwater, the Detector Pro Pirate is very good in the fresh water. Very reasonably priced. I have taken it to several lakes and rivers. The 2.4kHz is great for depth. On the higher side my water detector of choice is the Excalibur 1000. I have an Excalibur 1000 with the balance shaft assembly and knob guard (never used in saltwater and only light wear) for $749.95. This is an excellent deal....oh and has the battery and charger as well. If you are interested please drop me and e-mail. Have fun with whatever you choose!

Excalibur, in 1998 I found 188 rings in fresh water with one. It had the 8" seasearch coil. I've just ordered a new Excalibur 2 10". It's in the Minelab laboratory undergoing a modification that allows me to use the gray ghost headphones. via waterproof connector.

I have used:
Tesoro Tigershark
Fisher 1280x
Detectorpro Wader & Diver

You can't go wrong with any of these for dry, wet sand or in-water hunting.
In actual hunting comparison, they are about the same. The Tigershark is a little more sensitive on tiny gold and silver, when
set up correctly. I liked the 1280, it has a more pleasant tone. And ended up keeping a Wader, for my wife (but, I also use it), my wife likes the blue color,
it's lightweight, and also works great for land hunting.

Excall. an dont look back. Ive had 3 still have 2 .1 got stolen out of my truck. Good luck. COTTON.
