Best machine for small gold??

Hi, everyone. I'm brand new to this forum but I've been using detectors for 28 years, mostly relic and beach hunting. I must admit that I haven't kept myself abreast of newer technology so I need your help. I'm interested in finding very small gold items on the beach that other detectors won't find. I am currently using a Minelab Explorer II and Fisher CZ-20. I'm probably going to sell the CZ because have never really used it. Love the Minelab and I don't get into the water anymore. Anyway, back to my question. I know my present detectors won't do what I want to start working on so can any of you suggest a machine with these capabilities? Are the gold machines my only option and how will they perform on Carolina beaches? Thanks for any help and have a good one.

Thanks for the reply, crs. I have the Explorer II and though it's a great machine and I have found lots with it, I have always wondered why it won't pick up the tiny gold, small chains, earings, etc. Since it operates on multiple frequencies up to 100 khz it would stand to reason that it would have this capability but it doesn't. Or maybe I'm just not getting it set up right. Anyway, I read an article a couple of years ago by Daniel Stankowski about using a gold machine in the dry sand. That's what I was interest in but after doing a search on this I found a statement by someone talking about how crazy a dedicated high frequency machine would react to all of the tiny bits of foil and pulltab aluminum, etc. Any suggestions to settings on my Explorer would be very appreciated. Thanks again and happy hunting.

good luck with my Excalibur and CZ-20. Both get the job done.....If I was hunting fresh water, small gold, Tiger Shark or AquaStar or any high end PI unit if not alot of iron around. My daughter lives in Ladson and is stationed at Charleston AF base so we go donw pretty often.

Hi, George, nice to meet a neighbor. Folly's pretty messed up right now as I'm sure you are aware. There will be some finds each year as tourists and locals will still hit the beach but not like before, at least for a few years. I'm thinking Isle of Palms, Kiawah, Edisto and then north and south of these places for day trips. I've heard that Edisto is going to do a renourishment too but I don't know when. I have the CZ-20 and Explorer II but I really don't get into the water anymore so I think I want something lighter than the CZ-20 as I don't like to hipmount. Just thinking about it. Right now, I'm wondering if we've ever met. PM coming your way.
