BEST Loop for Excal ???

Accteam

New member
Hello again,

I bought a excal about 6 years ago and started hunting again. I have the one with the horse shoe shape and find it small and heavy. Any idea on which loop would be the BEST one?

Thanks in advance,
;)

You have one of the best search coils Minelab ever made. I would keep it as long as it's working. If you want a larger coil for sand hunting then get a Sovereign with a 10 or 15 inch coil. As far as the weight goes, changing coils won't really help much. Mounting the unit on a balanced straight shaft will help a lot. I would recommend a brand of straight shaft that I prefer but it may get me banned from this forum. I'm sure that one of the forum sponsers has something you can use Check the banner ads at the top of the page. ~John

Hello,

Thanks for the tips but I maybe I didnt explain myself correctly...sorry. I was not saying the excal is heavy...I mean it is but I was talking about the loop being heavy and wondering if anyone tried a bigger loop for the excal.

I already have a harness that mounts the excal on my hip. I thought that maybe because the excal I have, that the loop is old and small and maybe there was a lighter/bigger one.

Thanks for the advice anyhow

Hi,I have the same coil on my Excaliber. The 8 inch Horseshoe coil may seem heavy swinging in the air without much coverage but in the water the coil is the best! It goes as deep as the 10" BBS coil and cuts through the water well. Now if you intend to hunt on wet sand I would probably get the Sunray Intruder 12 inch coil.It is very light and goes fairly deep. I would also get a Straight shaft which will make a Big difference!! Good Luck! Walter

I use a wot and its great good on small gold great coverage very stable I have try 10" minelab/12 sunray/ and the wot is the best there is but I only lake hunt so may not be the best for the surf HH Ron

You can put the Minelab Tornado coil on this 10inch it is thinner, lighter and more sensitive to the bbs 1000 coil. This coil is standard on the latest Sovereigns.Be careful using big coils especially in the sea where you are fighting currents and also where black sand can make the bigger coils go crazy with false signals. seeya Neilo:ausflag:

Hey Accteam, Like Walter LI/John West Florida stated, you ALREADY have the B-E-S-T Coil made for the EXCALIBUR. I have (3) EXCALIBURS, and UNFORTUNATELY I only have one left with the SEASEARCH COIL, which is my Favorite. If you are primarily a Beach/Sand Hunter, and you want to go to a larger coil, than I would go with the SunRay 12" Coil
or the New MINELAB 10" Tornado Slimline Coil. But, if you do that, then send your detector into MINELAB, and have it hardwired. My personal opinion, BEST OF LUCK whatever you decide!! HH, Les Robinson

Hey Morris, are you wet & dry sanding with the S12 or what? How does the S12 do in the surf? Stability, pinpointing, coil flop, etc. Just curious. The thought did cross my mind on an upgrade, but I primarily hunt in ankle to chest deep water and the larger coil could be an issue over the stock 10". Seems like the 10" is already a handful in the surf. GH
