Best in iron: Etrac TTF or Deus?

Hi all,

I've been doing a lot of research on the Deus recently. I sure do like some of its features! The weight sounds especially fantastic.

I'll be coming from an Etrac. I've read lots comparing these two machines in general, but next to nothing about the Deus in heavy iron VERSUS the Etrac running in TTF (Two Tone Ferrous). TTF has produced some of my best finds since purchasing the Etrac.

I would sure like to hear from some previous Etrac owners who have used the TTF program and are now using a Deus to compare the two in the heavy iron!

Thanks!

You will Be surprised with the Deus. I was - we were 2 x Etrac and one Deus at a field at the same time. The Deus owner found so much more, and after that day I sold my Etrac.
The Deus is AWESOME in Heavy iron places... 9" coil in the fast program and you will rock and Roll.
I heard some say that this multifreq. system the Etrac are using, simple is to slow in recovery at Heavy iron places.
This test is made by the Danish dealer... Speedy Deus - two small iron nails and a coin - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38Kt6CA7WJM&sns=em

Now that's an amazing video of the speed of the DEUS.
I just wonder who can swing their coil that fast!!

Deus wins hands down. I have used the SE, Etrac and CTX. MineLab machines have historically been slow. Don't get me wrong. I believe the Etrac is a great machine and the best machine in Minelabs arsenal. I had been a long time MineLab user until I tried the CTX for several months. The Deus just happens to have the fastest recovery in high trash of any machine out there.

Philip,

Congratulations and welcome to the Deus family! Here's a video that puts the Etrac and Deus head-to-head in this guy's test garden - for what it's worth. I know there are many people who will argue that this video doesn't provide enough details on the detector's settings, but I CAN tell you that I've dug countless coins mixed in with all kinds of nails, screws, foil, tacks, spikes, golf-ball sized hex nuts, etc.

I hunted the site of an old wooden roller coaster built in 1923 several times after many local detectorists hit it with their machines - but I pulled literally hundreds of old coins from the iron trash, most memorable target being a thin Barber dime not 1" under the surface. This coin was situated a couple of inches above a 10" long iron spike presumably used for the trusswork on the coaster. When I rechecked the area with the ProPointer (to find the long spike) this really opened up my eyes to the capabilities of this detector!!! To my surprise the Deus largely ignored the spike but easily saw the 1" deep dime!!! I still will pull at least two old coins every time I re-visit the coaster site - most of them now are choppy and iffy signals and/or are severely corroded laying next to iron or aluminum targets.

Bottlecaps can be a problem, but once your ear gets more tuned to "the language" you will start finding all kinds of non-ferrous goodies. Did you get the 9" or 11" coil???

The E Trac is just not a good detector for iron. The TTF setting probably gets the best out of it for a heavy iron situation. But comparing it to the Deus is just not practical. The E Trac might get better depth, but in heavy iron the Deus kicks it's butt. Actually a detector like the AT Pro can kick the E Tracs butt in the iron. The CTX is much better in the iron than the E Trac as well. It has a faster processor and with the combined tones and smooth tone setting it does a really good job. But the XP detectors GMP and Deus are king of the hill in target separation. The E Trac does many things well, and the Deus along with the E Trac in any ones arsenal would prepare that person for just about any situation. But in the iron if you bring the E Trac you brought a knife to a gun fight.
