Best hunt so far with the Scorpion! Still talkin' to me...

Went out last night after dark to hit some tot lots. I had worked all day and was really worn out but as I've mentioned before, I have a DRIVE to find something valuable.. I hit 6 tot lots if you can count the ones that are seperated by a sidewalk. Otherwise 2 huge ones and 2 small ones. Here's the tally!!!!

11 dimes
2 nickels
5 quarters
24 pennies
2 Cici's pizza game tokens
ONE SILVER 1963 DIME..WOOHOO!!!
1 gold cross pendant-nitro
14k earring back
el cheapo earring-not even a nitro, LOL
ONE 14K GOLD NECKLACE WITH PENDANT-YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHAAAAW!!

Naturally I found about half a ton of trash to go with it. I've begun to understand what the Scorpion is telling me a little better! I really do learn more each time I go. I'd be hard pressed to tell anybody HOW the different sounds really indicate what, but I just know the better sounds now. I can even predict what small foil is based only on the sound!!

On the pics. A much more experienced person on this forum advised me awhile back not to post pics of valuable finds. This is tough for me because I'd like to really show it off...however I don't want somebody to jump up and say, 'YEAH, THAT'S MINE!'. Know what I mean? I'm a paranoid bastid anyway just so you know. I know many post their stuff...so help this noob out. I just don't want somebody taking away my fun!

Back the paranoid bus up!! I've been posting pics of my finds for years, not to mention pics of where I found them. Not one single soul has ever replied and told me "That's mine, I lost it 12 years ago!!" And if they did (not likely at all) the burden of proof would be on them. They would have to give details that only they and I would know. Post away, we don't want your finds, just want to enjoy them with you thru the pics!! Here, I'll post one!! Found this 10k rosary (and 10k ring) about a month ago, weighs in at nearly an ounce!!

I post about 75 percent of my hunts. I always post "good" finds. I'm curious as to who gave you that advice because most of the experienced folks here post it all. There are a few who never post finds unless they are special.

That is a great ratio of clad to keepers.

Chris

I got that advice from a guy in the Tesoro section. He's been at this awhile and kinda takes the approach of 'loose lips sink ships'. I'll give it a shot though tonight. I sure wish all my hunts were like this one!

Can the paranoia and post your finds. We all post our good finds. That's what this forum is all about. Looking forward to seeing your goodies. Sounds like you hit it good.

Bill

Well, there ya go!! Most of the die-hard Tesoro users are relic hunters. From my contact with some seriuos relic hunters, most of 'em think you're out to steal their best sites. Not saying all Tesoro users or relic hunters are, just a few I've come in contact with. Never have quite understood that rationale either, it ain't no freaking gold mine!! What good is it to find good stuff and not share your joy with others. I was raised better than that!!

Looks like that Scorpion & you are getting along just fine! I know from my own experience that it is a great machine, and definitely underrated! Keep those great finds coming

CW relics are a scarce item, hence alot of closed mouthedness is involved, where as a beach or park WILL be refilled over and over CW/1812 spots will never be refilled. Also the fact that some hunters do it for $$$ and will poach a site as well. It is consider "bad manners" in the South to ask where relics came from.

Huh..I did not know that R-n-R! I swear I learn something new everyday. I have never considered that. I will say that if a person from my area saw one of my posts and contacted me and I believed them I would return thier item to them. One of my THing fantasy is to find some cherished family Heirloom and I am able to track the rightful owner down and return it to them. I love to see stories like that on here. I think it adds creadability to our hobby when we do things like that. Scam artist's is another story, but I think those kind of people aren't interested in our daily finds. Not sure what I would do if I dug up a priceless cache of Roman gold coins or something. In this country, you the treasure hunter will probably come out on the short end of the stick. At least in NY state anyway.:garrett:

There have been several members on here that have returned items to their rightful owners or found lost property for someone. I've returned three cell phones in the past two weeks. A few years back a good friend of mine lost a $2000 heirloom ring given to her by her 100 year old mother while working in the yard. She was on the phone instantly pleading for me to come find it for her - which I did in short order, then just about got hugged to death. :) I've returned a couple of class rings as have several folks here on the forum.

Ahh yes, Money!! Greed!! Those things I understand all too well!! When that becomes your driving force, then it's no longer a hobby to metal detect, more of a business. Guess I'll stick to my fun sites, lakes, parks schools and such and have me some good ol' Texas style Southern fun!!
But we digress!! Why wouldn't one post a pic of, let's say, a nice CW buckle or a bunch of bullets?? What would that hurt?? Do you think someone could figure out where thay came from just from the pic?? Or would they be afraid some archaeologist would see them and come and take them away?? Seems I read about that happening somewhere. But why would those relics be more valuable, history-wise, than say some real nice arrowheads?? I go to one site that posts all kinds of pics of indian relics.

Finally!

That's the necklace I lost down by where you live! I'll PM my address.......................... Please mail it to me................

That's a joke.

Are the cross and chain marked? How? How much do they weigh? You were lamenting in a recent post that it was going to take you forever to find the dough needed for a new detector. I see enough gold for a very very god start.

Chris

It's marked 24k! I haven't decided what to do yet though-sell it and put the money towards our budget (tight times), or use it towards another detector. I guess I'm kinda waiting to see what else I find! On the weight, it's 4.63 grams. This is a small (short) necklace! The pendant is small too if you compare to the dime nearby..
