Best Headphones?

gregp

New member
I am in need of a new st of headphones for my MXT. Can get some opinions on the best set available. I'm willing to spent some money to protect my ears and get the best set out there. For some back ground information, I have a set that came with my MXT and they suck. I dont like the adjustment on both ears (I may if they worked better) and they are very difficult to adjust to a level that wont all the sudden blast my ears. My hearing is worth far more than these offer.

SunRay Pro Gold Headphones! You can't get any better in my opinion. SunRay Pro Gold Headphones Give Larry (IL) a call.

As far as protecting your ears Greg, be sure that the headphones you get have a volume limitation feature. Either a switch or internal. This is in addition to volume controls for each ear. I know the Sunray's that Nancy recommends are good HP's, although I haven't used them yet, but I'm pretty sure they have this feature. I have a pair of Jimmy Sierra Megaphone ll's and they are great. The sound is crisp and clear, not muddy or muffled like some HP's I've used. They are very similar to ( and I've been told made by the same company), as the Grey Ghosts. As Nancy said, give Larry a call ,he's an expert and does good business, JMHO Hope it helps.

Black Widows. Designed with volume control for each ear and limiter switch. Best phones I have ever tried.

SunRay Golds, Black Widow an Killer B's are all good headphones. SunRay and Black Widow both have the dual volume controls and limiter as well as a mode switch, but the Black Widow is much larger which can be good or bad. They are too large and bulky for me, but we have a club member who has large ears and the BW was the only headphone that would fit him comfortably. The B's have a single volume control and no limiter and the B's ll has the dual volume controls but still no limiter. IMHO, a sound limiter for use on the MXT is a must have. Here is a link for the SunRay Golds.

good detector ... or at least for some it is.

Personally, due to my hearing loss, I usually prefer the good audio blast I can get for some hunting applications, and it's especially needed with some models of detectors, such as the White's Classic series, which seem to be 'muffled' or too bassy for me. It's great to have the option of flipping a toggle to activate the limiter circuit. For many. many years I have preferred the Killer B 'Wasp' model with the dual volume control and limiter switch. Excellent audio and very comfortable, and they stay put on your head and don't flop. The same can be said of the SunRay Pro Gold model, which is essentially the same headphone (made for them by Killer B) but with softer pads and a little 'dressing' of some switches.

Either the Killer B 'Wasp' or SunRay Pro Gold will do the trick for you, I'm sure.

Good choice Monte. I love the soft leather ear covers of the SunRay Pro Gold. I've used them throughout the year....hot or cold they are very comfy. Larry's are the older set and they don't have the soft leather ear pads.

buy the sun rays you wont be disappointed, hh jay.

If you don't mind my asking...
what do the SunRays go for???

List price is $129.95 and some dealers offers a discount and free shipping.........

the SunRay Pro Gold Headphones make the difference, it's a little expensive but is worth

Hi Greg

I too like my Jimmy Sierras. for the same reason srf2112 mentioned. the knobs are big, easy to find when detecting
for adjustments, they cut out, out side noise well, I normally where hearing aids, so I get good adjustment out of these for both
ears, when I detect in the mountains, where I live I have to pull off one head phone, so I can hear rattle sneaks, they are sturdy
and work well for me, like the others have said there are other brands that are good also, maybe you can find a store around
that carries the different brands, good luck,

If you get a chance to do business with Larry and Nancy, do it! They have gone above and beyond for me, and they give so much back to the community!

For my MXT, I have and use the "E Series 9000 Whites / Koss Headphones". I am sure their are better ones on the market, but for less than $100 bucks, they work VERY VERY WELL; They have separate volume controls for the L and R ear, comfortable padding and very good clarity and volume. I am 100% PLEASED with them and would not consider buying another pair unless absolutely necessary. EJ

Koss phones are good for sure but for a few dollars more you can get the limiter circuit that is highly recommended for MXT users and a mode switch. I think the Pro Gold Sunrays are also more comfortable and have more room for your ears.
