Best headphones?

I dont think I am going to rush out and buy any new headphones, but I am curious about it.

I just have the stock Koss headphones for my etrac, but does upgrading to a nicer set make a big difference? and what does everyone else use?

I guess what I dont understand about the nicer headphones is what you accomplish by using them. With my explorer and my etrac I have just had the stock ones and never had a clue about buying a different kind. I put on a older pair of whites headphones last night, I dont see how anyone could of worn them for more then a few minutes. They made my ears hurt

Hi there! You'll probably gets lots of opinions on this, but many of us like the Gray Ghost NDT. They are super durable, each phone can be volume adjusted, and the best part is the cord can be easily replaced just by unplugging it from the phones, thus No Down Time (NDT). I've had a pair for about 10 years that are still going strong - just replaced the cord once - that's how I met Lynn at DetectorDepot. I have since bought a second pair as a back up or to lend because I like them so much. BTW, how's the software going?

Best, Erik

I like my Grey Ghosts. I used RatPhones and Jolly Rogers. Sold the Rats and the Rogers are on my CZ3D. The Explorer and E-Trac sounds are much better on the Ghosts than they were on the Jolly Rogers. I am very happy with the fit and comfort of the Ghosts as well as the quality of the sound. If they went bad tomorrow, I'd buy another pair without hesitation.

Just as I had to try a few pairs to find my "best" headphones you may have to do the same. I found I was able to recoup almost all my costs of the RatPhones selling them in the forum classifieds.

I have tried about all the top phones and for my hearing the Sunray Pro Golds win hands down for the higher pitched silver tones on the Explorers and E-Trac.Hoever some with large ears find them uncomfortable as the cups are standard size and someof the others are a bit oversize.Any of the top phones are better than stock for clarity and quality of signals. They are enhanced for detectors rather than music and are better on the higher side unstead of optimized for base notes.Adjustable volume control for both ears is a nice usefull feature as well.If you can try a few different brands on your machine you will quickly find the ones that sound the best to your ears, fits well and that is all that counts in the end,Ray
PS I have other top end phones I prefer on my F75 as it has much different audio than the Minelabs.

Has anyone tried the Accusound Pro headphones by Detect Pro that Kellyco is calling their best headphone. Curious about what people think of these.

My opinion is that the Koss headphones are the best in their price range. But when you are talking about Sunray Pro Golds or The Ultimate Grey Ghost, now you are in a different league. With these more expensive headphones I feel the tones are more defined and clearer especially on deeper targets.

I like my Koss headphones but I dont really have anything to compare them to. They are comfy but sometimes I do notice some background noise. Either way I am vey happy with the stock ones, especially comparing them to those headphones from an old whites.

Erik, software is getting worked on :) I sent you a couple of pm's awhile back. My mom is visiting from the Seattle area and she is keeping me on my toes (that is a huge understatement). I will try to give you a call over the next couple days. Hard to say what is planned for me though.... lol

I have a lot to tell you, some big changes and a brilliant idea thanks to someone else!

I used the Accusound Pro Gold headphones from Kellyco since 2003. They had a tight grip, clear sound
and seemed well made. I just got a pair of Grey Ghost NDT headphones several weeks ago because the
Accusound Pro's had a loose connection or broken wire on one side. I love the NDT's too and hope they'll last
for a while.

I am a bit hard of hearing in my left ear, from duck hunting with a buddy. Makes me laugh thinking back to how I survived them days.

With the nicer headphones and the silver being more defined, is it a crisper sound? I am thinking the headphones with adjustable audio in each ear would be a big benefit for me. What kinda scares me (for lack of better words) is buying a nice set of headphones and having them not fit on my head like the Koss that comes with it. There is no Minelab dealers anywhere around where I live. There is our sporting goods store that sells a few Whites and thats it.

I am a bit confused about it because when I am out detecting and its over 75 my head feels like its on fire from the heat. There aint much humidity where I live thankfully, taking a guess I would say high humidity might be 15 - 20% on a bad day. I feel like I need to learn what I have first and get good at it, but then again if it makes me more successful and more comfortable in the heat its a different story. I am not a big guy, I have actually shrank 2" in the last couple years and I am only 35 :argue: I just saying that cause I dont have big ears. haha

You dont have to have your detector modified to fit any of those do you?

I did a 9 hour drive today to drive with my mom back to her house in the greater Seattle area. There must be a dealer around here somewhere that I could try on some headphones at. I cant really stand it over here on this side of the mountain, but her house was built pre 1900 and so was the neighbors, I am looking forward to tomorrow!

Gotta say I had some Grey Ghosts underwater phones go South on me last week. I sent them in and in less than a week they are back. They even put a different kind of strain relief on the connector. Probably determined I was a clutz and needed something stronger. No questions about warranty. Just bang their repaired and back to me. Jim

With the dual volume controls you will be able to crank eveything max for volume on your machine and the adjust the phones to compensate for your weaker ear.All the top end phones that help block outside sound will be quite warm to say the least.

Give me a shout tomorrow evening - I just started a new job last week so I was a bit jammed. I'd like to catch up on the software....I got your PMs.....sorry to hear about your computer. As far as headphones.....the Gray Ghost NDTs are one of the best because you can so easily replace the cord. Lynn carries them.......Best, Erik

well i sold my black Rats today and now its decision time.
Grey Ghost ultra's
Grey Ghost NDT's
or Black Widow's
Price really doesnt matter, i want the best headphones to match with my Explorer.
any suggestions....thanks guys:yo:

I really like the Sun Ray golds, nice but if you do have large ears may not fit as comfy. The Sun rays give a great range on the 4 tone system on the E-trac, all the bells and whistles that the rest have, individual volume, mono/stereo etc. Nice but it all comes down to choice so good luck/:detecting:Hardrock

Not only great audio response, extremely durable, but you can replace a bad cord in a matter of seconds. I like 'em so much I have two pairs!

You know everyone's hearing is different and the Koss ur30 have a more bass to them. If you have a high tone problem with your hearing then those may be alright for "you". However, I personally find the Gray Ghost NDT to be exceptional along with the Killer B line. These two brands come with a lifetime war and offer nice clear crisp signals. You might be surprised to see just what you are not hearing with the Koss phones
