Best Headphones for X70 (Not the UR30)

Thr recommended Koss UR-30 phones for my X70 seem to be unavailable. I paid one detector online shop almost $70 almost a month ago and haven't heard squat. No product, no calls. Took my $$ though.

So I googled. The UR30's. are limited results but all show $49.95 price. The websites though are for $59.95? Plus outrageous shipping. $22 for 3 day UPS.

So I'm going to get ANYTHING other than the Koss. What do you recommend? Not cheapos, I have a pair or two already. Good quality ones that you like. Or would buy if you were replacing your own.

Thanks. This has been a totally frustrating day for me. This vendor, PayPal etc. I want to go hunting darn it!

Bob, The headphones I use the most on my X-Terra are the Gray Ghost Originals. Nice large earcup, wide band for my huge melon, soft (replaceable) ear pads, excellent audio reproduction, 90 degree plug, tight coil cord, adustible volume, toggle for stereo/mono. Just about everything I would want in a quality set of headphones. With that said, I just took delivery of a new set of Killer B's Hornets. They offer all the comfort features I like the Gray Ghost Originals. Plus a limiter switch, "tighter" controls on volume settings and my brother said his are awesome! Honestly, the main reason I bought them is because they have a bit larger "tank style" earcup than the GG. As such, I'm hoping they may not be as "sweaty" in the dog days of summer that are rapidly approaching. JMHO HH Randy

I really like my Sunray Pro Golds. The are very comfortable. Have a limiter switch, and seperate volume controls. I have hears that they are basically the same as the Killer B's Wasp? In any event get yourself a good set. You will not regret it, Beale.

I have a set of Nugget Busters, and I like them better than any other set I have ever used. The ear covers are comfortable, they have a stereo/mono switch, and they are durable. The run about $85. I also have a set of Jimmy Sierra headphones that I like almost as well. But the ear covers are a bit smaller and as such I use them as a back-up set. But their quality is equal in my opinion. I have had a pair of Koss, and I did not think much of them. They seemed to be flimsy in comparison to other models and the ear covers were way over sized in my opinion and thus produced a sloppy fit. The quality of sound was good, but I did not like anything else about them. The bottom line is you need to wear what is comfortable and fits or you will not use them. Best bet is to go to a well stocked detector store and start trying them out. My suggestion is you take your own detector so you will be listening what you will actually be hearing. Good Luck.

Like Randy...I use the Gray Ghost..they do a supper job. TomB:detecting:

Me too. I just ordered a set of the Gray Ghosts'. Thanks a lot for the good info. And good hunting.............

I really like my Detector Pro "Black Widow" headphones, they work great for me and my detecting conditions. Truth is, any of the higher end top brands are darn good headphones. Picking the brand of quality headphone that you like best for your use, head size, comfort, tone and sensitivity is all that really matters. I'd love to be in a store that had all of the top brands that I could take outside and test side by side. My old ears might need a different set of phones than a set of younger ears, one may fit better than the other etc. If you own any of the brands mentioned by the previous posts and like them, you have the best available.

Good hunting, John K

I got a set of the Sunray's and they are excellent, nice clear tone and as stated volume control for each ear and a limiter
