Best Headphones for the MXT??

Bmaintz

New member
Need some help on choosing the best headphones for the MXT...
Has the standard Royal headphones but want better ones....
Will be hunting the Gulf Beach in Biloxi (lot of trash)....
Thanks,
Bob

There many good phones on the market. I use the Ratphones and like them. Whichever phones you choose, for the MXT, I would suggest you get one with a limiter. With the limiter I can run the phones at full volume. They only limit the maximum volume but volumes lower then the limiter setting come through at full volume. I have a switch on the limiter so when I use the phones with my IDX which is a much quieter detector, I can switch off the limiter. The rats also have a replaceable cord, if one breaks just plug in a new one. Make sure the phones you get are large enough to fit over your ears and not on them. You want them to stop beach, wind, traffic and other noises but still be comfortable. Also make sure they work well with glasses if you wear them. Rob

Thanks Rob,
Where did you get the Ratphones & what is the normal price for them?

I looked at www.cresentclock.zoovy.com & they had the Ratphone dual vol. control for $99.95 shipped & the Limiter is Free as well as the shipping.....

www.dectectusa.com was $104 plus $6 to ship plus $3 for the limiter.... ($113 total)...
They are selling the new Green body with the storage bag though..??

Always looking for the best deal but also want a vendor that I can talk to...

Thanks,
Bob

I don't have the MXT - But I use Ratphones mostly as they sound nice and cut out the exterior noises well. I also use the Sunray Pro Gold.
The Rats have removable chord which is a nice feature and you swap the chord end to end for mono and stereo jack machines. If anything goes wrong with the chord, it's just a matter of getting a new chord only. The coil memory on the chord is tops.
The sunray to me, are just a little more comfortable and don't squeeze my noggin matter as hard.

May be moving to Littleton, Colorado (near Denver) in the spring & want to go after the nuggets... :)
Looks like the Ratphones will also keep my ears WARM.. :)

As I said there are a lot of good phones. I was able to talk to Rick to get my limiter adjusted to the volume I wanted. We emailed several times. Rob

I've been using the Sunray Pro Gold phones and LOVE them. They are so comfortable even in the summertime. I hear many more targets than the Gray Ghosts I had before and these are so much more enjoyable to wear. :detecting:

While I do not use a MXT I do use the Sunray Pro Gold also. I really like them very comfortable on my big ole head, Beale.

Went ahead & just ordered the RatPhones from Rick at Dectect.usa, told him about the lower price at CresentClock....
He couldn't understand why he was doing the $99.95 shipped as he drop ships the headphones to him.....
I figured I would pay the extra $13 so if I had any problems it would be easier dealing with Dectect.USA....
Thanks for all your input...
Bob

Should be delivered in a few days....
Also going to try them on my Kenwood TS-830S amateur radio.... :)

The Ratphones with the noise limiter for the MXT are the best phone that I have found so far to date, they work great. Used Killer Bees for a long time, great headphones but the Ratphones do the job better and work great with the MXT as well as my XL Pro.

Take Care,
Bill G

Should be delivered today....
Getting anxious to detect the beaches here in South Mississippi...
Katrina buried a LOT of stuff with a lot of trash such as nails, hope I can tell the difference between the nails & good targets..
They are rebuilding the 26 mile beach, pumping sand out of the gulf & deposit it on the beach (around 8 to 12 inchs)...
I hope I can detect this new layer as well as the original beach below.. :)

I wouldn't think you are going to see much under the 8" to 12" new stuff, unless the target is large. Also I'm wondering how the new loose soil is going to react. I would think it would be like burying a new coin in a test garden. Fresh soil doesn't work as well. Let us know what happens. Rob

Have you ever seen the birds following a farmer plowing??
There after the worms that have been exposed... :)
They will be dredging & pumping the Bay & move the bottom sand to the beach, I figure there should be a lot of Katrina items in the dredged sand since the storm surge took stuff out in the Gulf over 7 miles....
May also be a lot of trash but worth a try....
