Best GOLD Detector.

From researching it looks like if you are going to prospect for gold you need a detector that was designed for it. So what is the best Gold Detector out there? I see the gold bug II is talked about alot cause of the 71 Khz. It is an older unit with older technology. Is this one of the best or are there newer tech units out there that are better.??

how about the best in each range below.. go ahead and include used pricing..

$500 range
$750 range
$1000 range
$1500 range

It depends on what kind of gold you are looking for. Shallow, Deep? there are all kinds of variables but the best gold detector is one of the Minelab GP machines. But if you are going for shallow bedrock type gold then a Goldbug is good for that. or a Minelab Eureka gold.

The Minelab GP machines are $3500 dollars.. A little out of my price range for just "fooling" around..

I have heard that the Eureka is up there as far as being a good gold machine.. but I have also heard horrible things about the Eureka..

How does it compare to the Gold Bug 2.. seems the GB2 is older technology..
but I still see alot of people looking for them and buying them...

How bout an xterra 705 gold package.. would that be a step down from these two.?

The GB2 is a good machine, but the eureka has 3 switchable frequencys. If all you want to go after is gold then I would stay away from the 70, the eureka has more options than the GB.

What about the new PRO ???..It is being touted as, "the best Gold Prospecting unit ever made".. but I don't see any info on people using them or saying they are great..

what is the difference between the gold bug PRO and the newer gold bug or gold bug se ??

I like the feature of the 3 switchable frequencies in the Minelab Eureka.. I just wish they could have all those features and incorporate a Visual ID that shows all the stuff like the xterra 705, F5 or Omega 8000 shows..

A good gold machine will not have a visual display. If you are in a nugget patch then chances are there are not allot of targets so you need to dig them all to find a nugget. The gold big is a very proven machine, the eureka has more options and I feel that it is an eiser machine to use. You should also look at the infinium or the TDI because they are cheeper PI machines and PI machines are too notch at finding gold.
