I’ve been searching a small area where I think Forrest Fenn’s famous treasure might be buried, and I’m looking for some expert advice on what detector would give me the most depth for that target.
The chest is 10” x 10” x 5” and is made of wood with a cast bronze exterior. Inside is mostly gold—coins, jewelry, and nuggets. It weighs 42 pounds.
The ground is wet, and I think it’s fairly mineralized (my Garrett AT Pro-Pointer goes off when I stick it in the ground).
I’ve searched the spot already with a Garrett AT Gold, but I think it’s possible that the chest is deeper than that machine was able to detect. I had it on Disc 1 mode (I should have used the All Metal) with the standard, 5 x 8 coil. Also, it was early spring, when the place gets flooded—I had to search with the coil immersed in a foot of water.
I want to search the spot one more time with the deepest-reaching detector I can get for a target of that size and material. The Eagle Eye Depth Multiplier is out, since hiking with that thing would be too awkward (and anyway this video suggests that it doesn’t really add much depth to the GTI 2500’s largest coil: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnRP7gd140U). My candidates so far are the Garrett ATX with the 20-inch Deepseeker coil, the GTI 2500 with the 12.5-inch coil, and the AT Max with the 9 x 12 coil. Which of these would go deepest for my target? Is there another detector that would go deeper?
Thank you very much for reading this and for any help you’re able to give!
