Here is my best find for 2009. This token is brass, the size of a nickel and ID'd just like a zinc penny. In fact, when I dug it, I thought it was a nickel, then realized it had come in at a higher number. Upon field cleaning I saw the word saloon and immediately got excited. This token is valued in the Oklahoma Exonumia book at $600.00 and was used sometime between 1889 and 1907. It is pretty rare..

Nice pendant Beale i like it to . And nice token Dlozierp

I'd say my best find was early in the year. But this key date 1877 Indian Cent is probably my favorite single find, made toward the end of the season.

Found this 2 days before thanksgiving. Had been finding 45-70 fired bullets here and there. Hit this at 7 inches runnin all metal multi tones 10.5 Med DD
Big signal, glad i rechecked the hole after I pulled the crossed muskets. Got another signal and found the C then checked and found the numerals all in the same hole.

Nice finds everyone!

HH and Happy new year!

PS I hope the snow in the pic cools some of you down under blokes off a little:biggrin:

Randy, did you ever send it in to get it graded?

Terry, I sent it in to be slabbed mid-November. Although it hasn't come back yet, (told it would take 6 - 8 weeks) the coin shop that sent it to PCGS estimated it to be VF+ and insured it for $2300.00. He said since it was green with patina, not to be surprised if PCGS doesn't assign a number grade to it. They may just verify it's authenticity, comment on the detail and call it corroded. Apparently that is what they sometimes do with copper coins that have been in the ground and turned green. (patina = corrosion) He said he could send it to another grading service that would likely assign a number. But suggested I go with PCGS due to their reputation. Then if I decide to sell it, show it is certified as authentic and let the buyer judge the condition for themself. HH Randy

I was told PCGS doesn't normally grade dug coins, I will be anxious to see what you hear back on that. I know ANACS grades dug coins for sure. That is a dream find, and is still #1 on my list of dream finds.

I have to say those are some really nice finds guy's and I know that I would be thrilled if I found any one of them. Congrats to all of you for your great finds in 2009.

I'm a coin shooter, but this year one of my favorite finds turned out to be a relic. A 1918 IL. Chauffeur License.

I found this near a church and only had been searching for about 10 minutes when this signal came up.
It was so shallow that I thought it was a bottle cap... boy was I surprised when this came up!!
Thanks for looking,
Felix

Gday all,

2009 was my 1st year of detecting and it was such a great year...I can't decide..............................
1. A natural copper nugget
2. 1870-80's brass belt buckle
3. 1879 Penny ...found at an old inn site. The inn was run by my wifes relatives. The inn was bulldozed flat in the 1970's, lots of research done to get this old coin.
4. World War 2 war medal...I cleaned it up , traced the soldiers family by his serial no.and returned it to his nephew.
5. Antique rose gold and ruby ring found in late December

Hope 2010 is half as good.
Have a great year everyone.
