Enjoyed the video MT1862. Was this find covered by the news media? I live in west ashley and never knew of this site. I actually detected today on folly off of 11th ave. Thank's for the informative post. I will research and learn more about it.

I am sure that this will be much repeated on this forum "an extraordinary find and moving tribute to our soldiers".

Extremely interesting video, very well made.
I have a question about the relics themselves.

One can pretty clearly infer from the storyline presented in the video that at some point, you realized these weren't battle-fallen relics but artifacts from an an existing burial ground. How did you and the state handle their title?

If you retained them, did any moral questions arise?

Speaking only for myself and those who may agree (and not to pass judgment on anyone), if I were in that same situation, regardless of how monetarily valuable those artifacts may have been, I would've wanted to see them in a museum or re-interred with the men who were originally buried with them.

All artifacts that were found IN the burials themselves were re-buried with each soldier at the Beaufort National Cemetery.

The artifacts dug from their campsite are in private collections, with mine to be donated to a museum at my demise.

Glad you have alll enjoyed the video!!

That seems like a perfectly reasonable position. I would've probably done the same.
Amazing find. Goes to show, ya never know what you're going to run in to.
