Best Discriminating Tesoro

Honestly, the best I've seen so far is the Compadre.

It might have a lot to do with the stock smaller coil and the fast recovery speed.

It's the Compadre's circuitry. All the newer models have the high-gain, low-noise circuitry to keep up with the fallacy that "depth is everything". Still, they work better in iron than some detectors.

Hi, Coon, I'm agreeing with Slingshot and Smudge that the Compadre is a great disc machine , but I think some guru input on the Golden Sabre II and other of the Sabre series may be in order.JMHO. HH,Charlie

Read some of Monte's and others inputs from a couple of years ago about some of the trade offs in how some of the detectors discriminate. The Compadre does discriminate cleanly but also masks. Slower sweep and the small coil help reduce the masking, as does direction you approach the target from.

Any other tesoro with discriminator just high enough to discriminate foil and then use your eyes they are the best descriminator made.

That's the great thing about Tesoros...

If you want the most info go for a Deleon or Cortez...

After trying them I decided I didn't want that Info and prefer to dig more often than not.. I try to avoid Iron.. I'm not a cherry picker.

Thanks for all the replies.

Would a Vaquero with a 5.75 coil be a decent discriminator?

And which coil (concentric or widescan) would be better in an area where old houses burnt and there are alot of nails?

I have not used a wide scan, but think the concentric is best for trash because the cone of influence that pics up targets narrows to a point isolating individual targets that are at max depth. The discriminating abilities are manifested in the audio tone of a Tesoro. You will quickly learn the clicks and choppy sounds are junk and the clear tones are the ones to dig. With a little more practice you are 99 % sure of a pulltab. Three times this week I found a nail and coin in the same hole without ever digging a nail by itself. This is not possible with my expensive minlab as the nail masks the coin. I found these 3 coins in an area that had been heavily hunted with my Quattro.

I have a Tiger Shark coming, so I would have to say that I hope that model is the best discriminating unit they make!:please:

I am using the Vaquero with the 9X8 Mono coil in the areas with lots of iron junk. For making the nails invisible set the Disc to 5c mark or below (depends on their size). Still the small and thick (half-inch) pieces of iron or cast-iron could sound like coins. At least I could not hear the difference...
