Best Detector of Gold Jewelry

Yeah everyone. Wondering what people's preference for the best land detector specifically for gold jewelry, period. Deep silver not as important. Des in Buffalo

You will have to get yourself another DFX Des, prices are really good right now and if price is no object, the VX and V3i are incredible machines. If you want to go the no TID route, it is hard to beat the Tesoro's.

I think there are some real nice used ones Des, I would put a WTB in the classifieds to see what is out there and would also try to stay away from the 300 unless you hunt in some very clean parks or get an exceptional price. You might want to keep an eye out for a 6X10 too.......:ninja: Look out jewelry, here comes Des......

I am convinced that the the best detector of gold jewelry is the one you have in your hand and how much trash you are willing to dig. I am also convinced that we are walking all over good stuff and not digging it because we disc it out in our mind. The mind says I am tired and hot that is just another piece of foil.

Test the detectors you have and see what it takes to get get a positive signal on some test jewelry. The rings will be in the trash but pretty high, the chains will be way down in the foil and iron. Just one more thing testing should be done on or in the ground. Air test on gold was worthless on my machines.

I think typically the best detector would be with the higher operating freq. such as typically from 15 kHz. to 25 kHz and higher. These higher freq. are more sensitive to small items and gold jewelry. I've done very well with my V3 and a custom setting using 22.5 kHz. To make a long story short, I've found earrings, gold/silver chains, pins and broaches and small ladies gold rings.

Good luck,

TC-NM

Gold prospecting detectors are designed to find pure gold, which is why they run at such a high kHz.

However, most gold jewlery is mixed with other alloys to make them stronger, which lowers their conductivity range, so I think that with the possible exception of 24 karat gold jewlery, the advantage of the gold prospecting detector disappears on most gold jewlery from 10 to 18 karats.

I know people may laugh, but the remark that the Tesoro Compadre is a great gold machine is the absolute truth. I know that from first hand experience. It will find small gold very well also, so don't be put off by its $150 price tag.

Now comes the bigger question: are you prepared to dig all that trash in order to get the gold? Because no matter what detector you use, you will dig a ton of it before you hit your first gold. You have to set your discrimination just above iron and dig every solid target, from foil to pulltabs, because gold jewlery falls all over the place in the conductivity range.

Good luck!

+1

Dead on Ron.

The F5 is the best I have found so far for inland gold jewelry hunting.

I do like the ability to expand the lower conductive range on the DFX and V3/V3i. But the F5 brings more heat and is easier to use. I'll be posting more about the F5 and gold jewelry on the F-series forum sometime in the next week or so. Hopefully sooner if my time frees up.

The XT-705 with the 6" DD high freq. coil hits very well on small gold jewelry, but even so be prepared to dig a lot of trash.

Ron is completly right.

The best detector of gold jewlery is one you get your coil over and think your digging your 649th pull tab but it is a gold ring. Knowing your machine and digging pulltab signals and foil signals will get you the gold.

I disagree. The key word is dig the right things in the right places :ninja:

Good luck.

There is no telling where ANYTHING of value can be found at ANY place, ANYTIME.

The ground is FIRST---everything else follows!!! ;)-----The G2 next in line after the ground for this type of hunting!-------Del

do some trials with test pieces , few will find gold chains , try and see
