Best Detector for money?

bigbubba

New member
I am wanting to get a new detector for around $400 or less. What is the best detector for that kind of money. I used to have a Garrett Ace 250 and it worked good but it felt a little like a toy. Anything better? Thanks...

The Cibola is in that price range and it will blow the 250 away!
:chase:

What do you hunt for?

Consider the Minelab X-terra 305 ... new MSRP in your price range. I'm considering an upgrade to the X-terra 705 to get additional features but really don't need 3 MD's. I would recommend the 305 as a good, all around machine and it is no toy.

 Sorry- I wasn't expecting that from you!
But yeah-I'm considering on o'those. For one thing- the disc level can be lowered to just blip on nails-not much to some people-but much to me. The Cibola can also be supertuned, I.e., gaining more depth by increasing the threshhold in a/m mode and then switching to disc. motion mode. The target separation has been described as incredible. There is a special field test on "Gary's detecting" that I found really interesting. Now I have the Ace but I only use the sniper coil for around metal bars, fences, etc. That's one area it can hardly be beat and I could give more on that. But I also have the Silver umax, and if the Cibola gains about 2-3" as allcav once said-that would be truly great for the price..The fact that it's a Vaquero in sheep's clothing is another thing. I know it's hard to get rid of ID, but nowadays the square sta-tab registers nickel, anyway, and gold rings fall in the foil, tab, and coin areas anyway. So unless you're just a recreational hunter, Tesoro's one of the best ways to go.

For one thing the Cibola doesn't have that irritating belltone, and of coarse the main reason is its a Tesoro :tesoro::clap:.

Come on ski.... Bong , bong, bong, bing.... its got a great ring to it..lol

I think the best detector for the money will be a used detector, not a new one. Detectors are super reliable, well, White's Tesoro, Garrett, etc. Once you turn it on it's used anyway.

Hey Fellers, y'all slipping when you don't mention how Tesoro's Lifetime Waranty and service has been smoking all the other's butts ever since Tesoro first opened their doors. And for those who know, that's fact! Oh yeah, now's the time to buy AMERICAN too, when we can! HH, Charlie

I'm with Mike H.........where (location/mineralization level) and how does Bubba plan on using the machine. Plus, what what does he want features wise?

I had an Xterra 705... and if the 305 (in your price range) is like a tuned-down 705... you'll love it cause the 705 was a great overall detector....

I have a Fisher F2 for a back up (any noobies want to come with me). it's a light, accurate detector and the TDi numbers are great on it. A good bang for a buck for sure...

Check out the Tesaros on Ebay... There is always some used on there and you can get a good bang for a buck and they have the lifetime warranty...

Check out Teknetics... they are the cookie-cutter of the Fishers, and run about $200 less than the equivalent Fisher (minus a few little features)

some ideas.....

I would stay away from the 305 xterra. it looked nice but was a dog in performance. Buy a Tesoro Vaquero and you won't have to upgrade again. It will do everything you want a detector to do and do it well.

Buy a used Sovereign. All the various models of it get about the same depth and there isn't a deeper detector on the market.

Hey joe dirt_1 What's wrong with huntin' with a dog? This dog can hunt! His name is X-terra 305
