Best Detector for Coin and Relic Detecting ???

St Bernard

New member
I have a Whites MXT all PRO with 4 different coils which I like a lot. What would you consider to be the best COIN and RELIC detector on todays market ? Of all the brands and models there has to be opinions as to what you feel is the best of what is on the market today not considering previous brands and models that are not sold anymore. New people coming to this great hobby might read this and give them a good idea of what is out there and the price range
they want to spend. Thanks for your input.

For coins--Etrac/CTX-------For relics--FORS Relic.--------You want 'em both in a single detector---probably the Racer 2.

Think you still have it. What coils do you have and what are your finds?
May be you're only in the wrong location??
Relics are some bigger parts, made from iron, brass or bronze. In some cases gold and silver is included, too.
And for the coins you have tone ID.
Or do you just want to use something different?
If so I'd recommend a Fisher CZ.

Good Luck

If it had to be one detector, I'd go with the The Racer 2 or Racer and then probably the MXT Pro for a Coin/Relic detector. Fisher F19/Teknetics G2+ are a couple more good coin/relic detectors.

For coins and relic I would say it's the Deus. The ability to change frequencies trumps all the rest. Other machines require smaller coils to do what the Deus does with a 9 in in heavy iron etc. The Deus loves round objects also.

well duh. EVERYONE knows the answer to this question is: Minelab Explorers. haha . Of any generation. Eg.: the II (a favorite), the SE pro, the Etrac , the CTX, etc.... I am currently using the II with the sunray in-line probe, and spank most ANYTHING I duel with. Great all-around for coins, relics, etc....

Its one of those questions that has so many variables, its a very hard one to give a straight forward answer with.

For coin hunting i would choose my T2 or Deus, for Relic/Hoard hunting i would use either my Nexus dual 9'' coil or my TDI,it all depends on the site conditions and many other variables as well, what works for one person on his site location/s may not work for another person.

I've relic hunted for over 30 years and have used many machines that worked well. Started with Garrett Master Hunter series. Used Nautilis (sp). Moved on to Whites MXT. Liked the dual tones. Helped me learn what a deep bullet sounds like in all metal. Used the Fisher F 75. Tried the Blisstool and Deeptech Gold. Used the Etrack and CTX3030. All were and are good machines with pluses and minuses. The F 75 and Blisstool were by far the deepest machines of all I used. Doesn't mean they were the best in all situations. I'm currently using the Garret AT Gold. Mot the deepest machine, but I've re hunted areas I have pounded with other machines and have found relics missed by the other machines. Works very well in iron infested areas. Has some very good features. I'm sure the other machines listed here are fine machines. I guess the real answer to your question is there is not one machine that in all situations wins hands down. If there is one, I haven't tried. it. I'm now in my 70's and have probably bought my last machine. I'm happy with the results of the AT Gold and have lost my desire to chase the latest new shiny object. If you have the opportunity to try out one of the machines recommended before you purchase, that would be my suggestion. Test drives are a great way to make up your mind. Short of that, try to do your research with owners videos and testimonials. Whatever you decide on, remember to have fun and enjoy the hunt. Appreciate what you find as you touch history.

Keep on digging,'

Totally agree with the last post........most of the top models will give you the same results.

I have had an etrac, deus, and AT pro, all of which I became extremely proficient with in the time I've had them. I recently purchased a teknetics t2 and have gone back over sites I've nailed with all the above machines. I gotta say I am extremely impressed as I have found buttons at 10-11 inches, 3 ringers even deeper, and coins in between trash. This is in disc mode . I haven't even begun to tap into all metal yet! Machine is great in trash, has impressive depth, and the tone options are great. For relics, jewelry, and coins it would be hard to beat the T2 for a great land machine. There's machines out there that can go a little deeper and separate a little better, but then again they also cost hundreds more. Everyday with the T2 it proves itself over and over and I've only had it couple months, and this is from someone who has found over 300 silver coins in couple years with the etrac. Highly recommended.

Are you using the latest flavor of T2, the DST, or the "Classic"? What coil? If you are finding multiple deep coins behind your Etrac, that is pretty impressive...

I've seen reports from people that used the T-2, explorer, and tejon that couldn't believe what they started finding when they used the deus.

I've heard great things about the fors CoRe and now with the fors relic you get the same features as the core but without the vibration feature, but with same search modes pus 2 more.
That's the one I'm saving for, but I have no experience with higher end machines.

All are great choices (how's that for diplomatic. .lol). I think the Mxt is a good detector as well, I've owned 3 with various coils. Keep in mind that it is just as important to learn what the detector is telling you as much as which of the (quality) detectors is better, as they will all do well. Some have better attributes than others.

Examples:

For separation it is hard to beat the deus, but the tid accuracy is sub par, the Core does exceptionally well at banging out the tiniest pieces in heavy iron and id's well, but has it's interface on the side if the unit, some guys don't like that. The Racer2 is a great all around detector, although not quite as good in iron as the Core, imo, and has poor ergonomics for long hunts (2+hrs). I suspect the new Fores Relic fares even better in the iron pits than the Core with the added features. That would be my personal pick for a relic detector. The T2SE and F75SE are deep seeking units that also do well in iron and have great user interface and ergonomics. I didn't like the audio on the G2+, but keep in mind that's just an opinion, some guys really like it and it swings well. I've never had an Etrac, but owned an Explorer SE pro. Great detectors and well known deep silver sniffers, but I don't like Minelab tones. Again, my opinion. I've heard good things about the CTX, but have also heard they are a bit to swing after a while.

So there ya have it, clear as mud? Lol.
